Turbulent Race Finishes in Firth Place For Herberth Motorsport
The new GT World Challenge Europe season kicked off on 23 April. The first race of the Endurance Cup took place in Monza, Italy. Among them: Herberth Motorsport. Alfred and Robert Renauer's racing team competed with a Porsche 911 GT3 R. Together with teammate Ralf Bohn, the twins took fifth place in the class.
"That was a solid start," Alfred Renauer sums up. "Of course, like last year, we would have liked to have been on the podium at the start of the season, but we can still be satisfied. Sunday was quite chaotic from the start, but we kept a cool head in both qualifying and the race and brought home a good result. We can build on that in the coming races."
Repeated power outages at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza caused confusion. After qualifying initially had to be postponed by around 45 minutes, only two of the three sessions could ultimately be driven. So Robert Renauer was not allowed to set any time and the team had to start from seventh place on the grid, the Bronze Cup, which will be newly created in 2023. "Of course, that wasn't ideal for us. I would have liked to have set a fast time, but we made the best of it in the race," commented Robert Renauer on qualifying on Sunday morning.
For the race itself, the motto was clear: make up places. And that was anything but easy in the chaotic start-up phase. But starting driver Ralf Bohn kept his cool and handed over the car to Alfred Renauer unscathed. He continued the strong performance of his teammate and moved up to 23rd place overall.
Robert Renauer took over for the final stint and finally crossed the finish line in 21st place overall, which also meant fifth place in the class. Victory in the Bronze Cup was secured by the crew of the #911 Porsche fielded jointly by Herberth Motorsport and Pure Rxcing.
The Endurance Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe continues from 2nd to 4th June. Then the second race of the championship season will take place at the Circuit Paul Ricard.
