Two victories and championship lead for Proton Huber Competition
Successful weekend for Proton Huber Competition in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland - Larry ten Voorde won both races and thus took the lead in the standings. Proton Huber Competition also leads the team standings.
The third race weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland is behind Proton Huber Competition. The racing team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria entered five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars on the traditional circuit directly on the Dutch North Sea coast. In addition to the two Dutch local heroes Larry ten Voorde and Flynt Schuring, Horst Felix Felbermayr, Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher lined up for Christoph Huber's team.
Larry ten Voorde came out on top in Saturday's race. However, the three-time champion of the popular one-make series lost the lead at the start as he set off from pole position. After a few laps, however, the front runner headed for the pits with a puncture, allowing ten Voorde to retake the lead and defend it until the end of the race.
The strong team result for Proton Huber Competition was completed by Flynt Schuring and Alexander Tauscher in fifth and sixth positions. Fifth place for the youngster Schuring is also equivalent to second place in the rookie classification. Sebastian Freymuth and Horst Felix Felbermayr retired after collisions.
On Sunday, the 27-year-old ten Voorde scored his third win of the season, taking him to the top of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany standings. Right at the start, he stormed from second on the grid to take the lead, which he was able to defend throughout the race against the hard-pressing competition. "It was obviously a great weekend for us! Even though it may have looked easy, it wasn't. We had to give it our all, as the competition was very strong. To win both races in the end is of course incredibly cool. A big thank you to the whole team at Proton Huber Competition - it's a great team that works very hard," said ten Voorde after Sunday's race in the popular holiday region.
Alexander Tauscher (fifth place), Flynt Schuring (eighth place) and Sebastian Freymuth (twelfth place) also scored important points for the Bavarian team. Horst Felix Felbermayr in the team's fifth car missed out on the points by less than 0.2 seconds!
"What a fantastic weekend for our entire team," said delighted Franziska Lambacher and Michael Dirsch, who manage the Proton Huber Competition entry in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. "Larry won both races and took the lead in the standings - Flynt also finished second in the rookie classification on Saturday - it couldn't have gone much better for us. We hope that this will continue in Budapest. A big thank you to our entire team for the great and successful effort this weekend!"
After three of eight race weekends, Larry ten Voorde has a ten-point lead at the top of the standings over his closest rival. Alexander Tauscher is the second-best driver for Proton Huber Competition in sixth place in the championship. The team from Passau is also leading the team standings - after the successful race weekend in the Netherlands, the team has a 40-point lead in the standings. Proton Huber Competition also has an excellent championship lead in the rookie classification. Flynt Schuring is just one point behind in second place in the standings!
The highly competitive one-make series continues in a fortnight' time. The fourth race weekend in the Porsche racing series will take place at the Hungaroring on the outskirts of Hungary's capital Budapest. For the first time since 2014, the racing series will make a appearance on the track that Proton Huber Competition is very familiar with from the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
