Herberth Motorsport take first win in Dubai
Porsche Customer Team Herberth Mptorsport has taken the first win of the Asain Le Mans Series at its opening weekend in the GT class. In the highly dramatic four-hour race in Dubai, Ralf Bohn, Alfred and Robert Renauer scored a victory with the No. 99 Porsche 911 GT3R. We were expecting a Porsche win after dominating qualifying and it was a 911 GT3 R that won the day, but not necessarily the one we thought. On home soil, GPX Racing had a perfect race up to 4 minutes from the checked flag when Alain Ferté made a mistake spinning the car.
Heartbreak for the number 40 GPX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R. After a very strong start which saw Julien Andlauer pull out an extraordinary lead the number 40 GPX Porsche 911 GT3 R it looked guaranteed that the GPX team where on course to take the win but disaster and heartbreak struck after Axcil Jefferies consolidated the position, after spinning with only 4 minutes remaining on the clock that saw the Dubai-based team drop to second, before a penalty applied post-race saw them drop to fourth.
A solid run by number 99 Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 of Ralf Bohn, Alfred Renauer and Robert Renauer meant victory for the German team, ahead of Brendan Iribe, Oliver Millroy and Ben Barnicoat number 7 INCEPTION Racing McLaren 720S GT3, and number 34 Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Chandler Hull, Jonathon Miller and Nicky Catsburg.
The second Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 number 93 who started on the front grid row struggled throughout the race eventually crossing the line in 28th place, 14th in class.
The action continues today with Race 2 from Dubai Autodrome starting at 12:45 local.
