Will Aspin bringing fresh approach to Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton

Will Aspin heads to Thruxton in Hampshire this weekend (June 7-9), for rounds five and six of the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign.

The British / Italian teenager is hoping a fresh approach this time out will help change the awful luck he has suffered so far, as mechanical problems and being caught up in other drivers’ incidents have left him without representative results.

This time out he heads to the UK’s fastest circuit, where last year in qualifying he lapped the 2.35 mi (3.79 km) venue at an average speed of over 115 mph, narrowly missing out on the Pro-Am class pole position.

Having recently tested at the track, Will has been working hard with the Eden Race Drive team to find improvements and has spent much of the past week working on a new way to approach how he drives, hoping this will pay dividends once action gets underway.

Will and his teammates will have two practice sessions of 45 minutes each on Friday, June 7th, before qualifying the following afternoon at 14:10. The first of two 22-lap races is scheduled for 10:50 on Sunday June 9th, with the second at 15:15, which will be shown live on ITV4 in the UK and on ITV Sport TikTok worldwide.

“As hard as it is, we have to put the first two rounds of the championship behind us and push forward for the rest of the year. Thruxton is the final round before the big summer break, so it'd be really nice to go into that with a couple of wins under our belt. I'm very lucky to be in be in the position I'm in, to be able to drive such an amazing car from Porsche around all these tracks in the UK. It really is very, very special and I cannot thank all my sponsors enough for their support.

“It's interesting to see the different driving styles between all of us at Race Drive. You can pick up from different things from each driver and that's why it's quite nice having teammates who are all very quick. We tested at the track recently, which was okay, but I don't think we were perfect. I've had a big think this week, regarding what I need to do, what needs to be changed in my driving style, and how I need to approach every corner differently. I've been reviewing that over this past week, so hopefully, I can put it into action and come back from the break with pole and two wins. I want P1 in everything!”
