Exciting GTC Race Finale at Hockenheim with podium for W&S Motorsport

As part of the ADAC Racing Weekend, the final three races of the GTC Race took place on 1 and 2 October at the Hockenheimring. Luca Arnold in the PARAVAN Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 #7 climbed onto the podium in third place in class on Saturday after the GT60 race. The young driver finished the two sprint races under adverse weather conditions on Sunday in eighth and fifth place in class. Arnold finishes the GT60 season standings in third place and in the GT4 junior classification he ends the year as the fourth-best youngster in the standings.

For the one-hour GT60 race on Saturday, Luca Arnold started in 13th place and third in the class. Constant weather changes did not make it easy for the protagonists to choose tyres and race control sent the safety car onto the track on the first lap as heavy rain set in. Arnold immediately headed for the pits to pick up rain tyres and therefore fell back in the field first. After 40 minutes remaining time the hatz over the 4.574 kilometer long traditional circuit was released again, Arnold managed to make up some positions. For the mandatory stop, he came to the pits in eleventh place. In the second half, he managed further overtaking manoeuvres and after 25 laps he crossed the finish line with the PARAVAN Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 #7 in third place in class and eighth in the entire field.

The whole Sunday morning it rained heavily again at the Hockenheimring. From seventh place in the class and 15th in the field, Luca Arnold went into the first sprint race over 30 minutes. An accident on the first lap caused a safety car phase and a subsequent interruption with the red flag. The 19-year-old was ranked eighth in the class and 13th overall.

Arnold started the second sprint race in the afternoon from 7th and fourth place in the class. Furthermore, heavy rain poured over the route in the north of Baden-Württemberg and caused critical conditions. So they started again behind the safety car and released the race with 20 minutes remaining time. Luca Arnold briefly finished sixth overall in the #7 PARAVAN Cayman GT4. Due to the track conditions, the race control sent the safety car back onto the track four minutes before the end of the time due to the track conditions and Arnold crossed the finish line in fifth place in the class and eighth overall.

The result for the student from Aichelau after his second GTC Race season with W&S Motorsport is once again outstanding. Arnold finishes the GT4 junior classification in fourth place and the GT4 overall standings in sixth place. As the third best GT4 driver in the GT60 races, he was able to climb onto the podium at the end of the season. Team W&S Motorsport finishes 2022 in fifth place in the standings.

Four selected GT4 drivers will now qualify for the GT3 promotional squad and for the screening test next weekend. Finn Zulauf, who drove with W&S Motorsport in the GTC Race in 2021, was able to impress last season. Luca Arnold was also among the candidates last year. The best driver will then have a free cockpit in a GT3 car in the GTC Race for two years.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "Under these fierce conditions, our motto for all three races was to arrive safely and Luca always brought the Cayman GT4 to the finish line without any damage. His final placings in the series, despite an suspended race, are absolutely great and he has continued to learn a lot. I would be very happy if he could qualify for the promotion squad and if he could take the next big step in his still young career."

Luca Arnold, driver #7: "W&S Motorsport has done a great job over the season, everyone in the team! I was able to score points consistently and without incident throughout the year, which was rewarded with third place in the GT60. The last weekend was again extremely turbulent and demanding, but also very instructive. Finding a suitable tactic was extremely difficult. On Sunday under these conditions, the motto was to arrive safely, which was successful and the lap times with the Porsche were on an equal footing with the competitors. Here, too, the W&S Motorsport crew did a great job. Thanks to the squad for the strong season!"
