Four Porsche Races on Busy Snetterton Saturday

All of Porsche Club Motorsport's race series are in action at Snetterton this coming Saturday, June 18th, with rounds five and six of the Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli while the Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge fields combine for their own two races. The long version of the Norfolk circuit always provides great racing, and this coming weekend will be no exception.

Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli

Pete Morris heads the class one points in his Strasse-run 997 C2S having taken two wins so far this season, and the experienced racer will undoubtedly be a front-runner at Snetterton where he won twice last year. A win in round four at Brands Hatch at the end of April sees Kevin Harrison second in his County Classics 996 C2, always a driver to watch on the opening lap as he invariably gets his car off the line well.

Next up in the points – and racing at their local circuit – are father and son combination James and Bill Caley. James has won at Snetterton before, while Bill is making a strong impression on his class one debut in the Cayman S that won the 2020 title. Newcomer Neil Delargy is another to quickly get amongst the regulars, with a best of fifth last time out, and sits just ahead of Paul Seagrave in the points.

Two drivers uncharacteristically far down the order should be factors today. Chris Dyer has been on the podium in the two races he has finished in his Cayman S, while 2020 champion Simon Clark was forced to miss Brands Hatch but took a first and a second at the Donington Park season opener.

Class two has seen James Coleman and Colin Tester sharing the wins in their Boxsters, and they sit just five points apart with Coleman holding the advantage. Their battle should again be a highlight of the day in a closely matched class where Angus Archer sits third have twice taken podium finishes.

Andrew Porter and Oliver Chatham have both looked strong on their series debuts with Porter already a podium visitor, and they sit fourth and fifth in the points in the Boxster dominated class, just ahead of series regular Carl Hazelton. Another driver out of place in the points is 2021 class front-runner Paul Simpson, suffering from a non-finish in the opening race of the year, but on the podium at Brands Hatch. 2021 Boxster Cup champion Richard Forber could be another to watch for, having sorted his mechanical woes from earlier in the season.

Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge
The Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge fields combine to offer up an enticing mix of closely matched cars chasing a championship and some classic Porsches battling for race honours.

The Boxster Cup sees the field in the popular Porsche Boxster S and running on treaded Pirelli tyres, and provides a controlled route into motorsport as well as a home for some series regulars who enjoy the cut and thrust of the competitive series. After four races Mike Thompson heads the points table, and while an elusive first win has been just out of reach, he has stood on three of the four podiums so far.

Darren Labbett sits second, the winner of the opening race at Donington Park and second at Brands Hatch at the end of April, impressive from a driver with just one outing under his before this season. Unique Porsche’s Darren King is next up, having led in his very first race at Donington Park before sliding down the order, and a winner in the shortened first race at Brands Hatch.

Pete Evans claimed his first win at Brands Hatch to sit fourth, just ahead of a clutch of drivers close on points, that group including his wife Faye Noble-Evans. A driver who should feature in that group is Sarah Thomson, who showed her overtaking ability at Brands Hatch but has had her points tally hurt by missing a race at Donington Park with a clutch problem.

Returning for Snetterton is Donington Park race winner Steven Shore, while all at Porsche Club Motorsport are delighted to have Vikram Sudera on the entry list, in a new Boxster after destroying his in a race-stopping incident at Brands Hatch.

The 911 Challenge is for virtually any air-cooled Porsche and in the two races so dater the 911 of Tim Bates that has proved the car to beat. He should have some opposition this weekend however as Rob Hollyman returns in his well-sorted 964, a race-winner here at Snetterton last year.

James Neal and Neil Harvey share the former’s 964 for a race each and were the closest challengers to Bates in the opening two races at Donington Park. Christian Ayres took his first podium finish in that meeting in his 964.

The lovely 911 RSR of David Burke returns, a winner in David’s hands at the Festival of Porsche at Brands Hatch last year, while making his series debut is Stuart Jefcoate in a 993.
