Hannes Morin back in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia to stay

In the 2020 season, Hannes Morin made a guest appearance in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. The Norwegian is back. To run the entire Porsche Approved Cup championship. "It will be super fun to run the Carrera Cup again. From what I learned in my run-in two years ago, I think the strong, rear-wheel drive Porsche can suit me and my driving style well, says the 19-year-old from Umeå.

In Hannes Morin, Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia gets a driver with an impressive track record. As a karting driver, he has achieved great success both nationally and internationally. In addition to three titles (two as a junior and one as a senior) in the Swedish Rotax Max Challenge, he has one victory in the Rotax Max Challenge Euro Trophy 2018 and a fourth place in the world final the same year. As recently as December, he was also second in the E20 class during the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Bahrain.
In 2019, Morin moved to STCC and at 16 years became the youngest driver in the series ever. The following season he was fourth overall in the championship and won in the junior class. On his way to the top results, he won the third and final race at Mantorp Park, thereby breaking Mattias Ekström's record as the youngest driver to cross the finish line as the winner of an STCC race.

In 2020 Morin also took the opportunity to test porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. Morin borrowed Anton Marklund's Cup car, travelled the 200 km north to Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors and took on a tough task to say the least: test, qualifying and two races in one day. In the rain! Without preparatory tests, he managed to overcome the difficulties in an impressive way. In a strong starting field, seasoned with guest drivers Johan Kristoffersson and Jan Magnussen, Morin reached the second qualifying round, Q2, and in the opening race he was listed for seventh place. In the second, he was fifth and chased Hampus Ericsson. In an offensive overtaking attempt, however, he ended up off the track and slipped down to 11th place.

"In terms of placement, I might have hoped for more, but I'm still really happy with my effort," he said, adding about the drop-off in the second heat: "No one remembers a coward.

Hannes Morin will compete for Steber Racing, the team that won the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia with Oscar Palm in 2014 and the team championship with Hugo Andersson and Patrick Rundquist two years ago. In the Falun-based team, Stefan Pettersson is the bassist. "I'm looking forward to getting Hannes into the team. He is hungry, young and documented fast," pettersson says. Offensively, he might add. "I have a pretty aggressive driving style, I like to push the boundaries," Morin admits.

Steber Racing becomes Morin's team-mate with another newcomer to the championship, Markus Lönnroth, who takes the step from Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia.
They will drive a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II) in the Porsche Approved Cup. Both will also have their merited driver coach. Lönnroth has hired oscar palm and Morin continues the collaboration with another former top driver in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, six years older cousin Philip Morin. Philip Morin has previously been the driver coach for Hugo Andersson, who has chosen to take a sabbatical, and it is precisely his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II) Hannes will compete in. It will be interesting to see how the Approved Cup cars stand up against the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). I think we're going to see very exciting races," said Morin, whose seasons at stcc have given more flavor. "But now it feels right to drive a faster car and develop more as a driver.

The 19-year-old is in the race and is really looking forward to throwing himself into the big starting field where he will face previous opponents in both karting and racing.
"2022 is probably meant as a learning season really, but at the same time I'm a winner. "I don't like being in the middle of the field so I will do everything I can to be visible in front of course," he says, adding: "Even if I can't keep up with the competitors in the new car, I will do everything I can to win the Porsche Approved Cup.
