Huber Racing with successful race weekend at Red Bull Ring
A full programme for Huber Racing in Styria. The Porsche racing team competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux at the Red Bull Ring.
Eight Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, four half-hour races and five podium results - behind Huber Racing lies a demanding but successful race weekend at the Red Bull Ring. The Porsche team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and the Carrera Cup Benelux in Styria.
In the latter one-make cup, the season finale took place on the high-speed circuit in Austria. Huber Racing brought three cars to the start. In addition to the local hero Horst Felix Felbermayr, Flynt Schuring and Ariel Levi started for the Huber team. Right from the first practice session, the team proved that they would fight for the top at the Red Bull Ring. Thus, local hero Felbermayr secured the second starting position for both races in qualifying.
In the first race on Saturday afternoon, the Huber Racing drivers provided plenty of spectacle. Flynt Schuring and Ariel Levi in particular were involved in spectacular scenes over the entire race distance from grid positions eight and 15. In the end, the three Cup Porsches were classified in positions two, three and four. While Felbermayr and Schuring were able to climb the podium, the Israeli Levi missed it by a hair's breadth.
Sunday's race was marked by a torrential downpour, which led to a 45-minute interruption. After the resumption, Felbermayr was turned around by a competitor and dropped to the back of the field. But in the remaining laps the youngest member of the Austrian racing dynasty started a strong chase and drove back to eleventh position. The best Huber driver in the race was Flynt Schuring. The Dutch youngster was apparently able to stay afloat at times and took on one opponent after the other, finishing the final race of the season in second place. Ariel Levi also managed to fight his way up to seventh place.
"I am very proud of our three drivers," said a delighted Franziska Lambacher, team manager of Huber Racing's Carrera Cup Benelux programme, after the races. "We showed a very strong performance here in Spielberg as a whole and were thus able to fight for top results. It's extremely unfortunate that Horst Felix was spun in the second race and missed out on another podium finish, but he was able to fight back strongly afterwards."
The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland also competed on the Styrian circuit as part of the DTM weekend. Alexander Tauscher, Ariel Levi, Sebastian Freymuth, Jonas Greif and Georgi Donchev formed Huber Racing's usual quintet in the traditional German one-make cup.
Alexander Tauscher finished both races at the Red Bull Ring in seventh position and thus scored important points. In both races, the talented Tauscher, who has already had a lot of bad luck in the current season, was involved in gripping two and more races.
Ariel Levi was also able to take points in both races, before Sebastian Freymuth - after problems on Saturday - also managed to score a countable result on Sunday. On Sunday, all five Huber Racing cars finished the race in the top 20, a strong team performance!
Georgi Donchev was also able to climb the podium in the Pro-Am classification in both races. Ahead of the season finale at Hockenheim in four weeks' time, he occupies third position in the sub-ranking and can still secure the title in the class in Baden.
Luca Rettenbacher, who is currently leading the team together with Gerhard Freundorfer, said after the two races: "Here at the extended home race of the team we also showed a strong team performance. We are probably only missing a little bit of luck for a podium result, hopefully we will manage that in Hockenheim. In addition, we'll be united in our fight for Georgi at Hockenheim, so that he can hopefully still have a say in the title in his class."
At the same time, the racing team from the Passau district competed in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse in Mugello, Italy. The twins Johannes Kapfinger and Michael Kapfinger each drove a 911 GT3 Cup. Johannes Kapfinger, who won the GT Winter Series title in March, has been an official Porsche Switzerland support driver since this season. Merabi Mekvabishvili also competed for the team on the traditional Tuscan circuit.
In the Open GT race, Michael Kapfinger celebrated an overall victory. In the field of 33 cars, he prevailed in the race that lasted about half an hour. Merabi Mekvabishvili finished the race in the middle of the field. The Endurance race over 100 miles was also successful for Michael Kapfinger. Together with Dieter Svepes, he finished second overall. His twin brother Johannes also finished second in the GT3 Cup race.
