Jan Magnussen back in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia

The former Formula 1 driver, ALMS and IMSA champion and multiple class winner at Le Mans, Jan Magnussen, will be the guest driver in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia at Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp june 18-19. For the Danish racing star, the entry into Scandinavia's leading racing championship will be warm-up for this year's Le Mans 24 Hours.

The season premiere of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia at Ring Knutstorp offered intense racing and brilliant driving by the reigning and three-time champion Lukas Sundahl. The Växjö driver took command in the championship with double pole position, double fastest lap and double victories.

When the second round is run in Anderstorp 18-19 June, the resistance hardens as Danish racing star Jan Magnussen makes his second entry into the series via Porsche Sweden's guest driver program. The Roskilde driver made a successful guest appearance at Drivecenter Arena last summer and is now ready to challenge the starting field in Scandinavia's leading racing championships.

"My debut appearance in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia last year gave a clear taste for me. I was particularly impressed with the organization and the sporting level so I look forward to participating again," says Jan Magnussen.

"Getting back to the series on the classic Formula 1 track in Anderstorp is of course an extra spice and it will be a really exciting challenge.

Jan Magnussen is also currently highly relevant for the bet on Le Mans 24-hour together with his son, the former F1 driver, Kevin Magnussen. The porsche carrera cup scandinavia competition will thus be an important part of the build-up for the 89th edition of the world's largest endurance competition later this summer.

"In the 2021 season, I compete in the LMP2 class in the FIA World Endurance Championship and also run the 24-hour race in Le Mans with my son, Kevin, in August. I come to Anderstorp directly from 8-hour in Portimào and afterwards I travel to Spain to test with the Le Mans program. I am happy that everything fits together and look forward to getting another chance in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, as well as hopefully being able to fight for a top result!

Magnussen has an impressive racing career behind him. In addition to three seasons in Formula One with McLaren (1995) and stewart grand prix (1997-1998), he has three World Championship titles in karting, a legendary Championship victory in British Formula 3 with a whopping 14 race victories in a season, five class victories in the 12-hour at Sebring, four class victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a class victory in daytona 24 hours. Add double championship victories in the American Le Mans Series and IMSA SportsCar Championship.

"Jan Magnussen is a FIA Platinum Driver and one of the most experienced in the world in GT racing. He's warmly welcomed back to the championship. The fact that we get to have a former Formula 1 driver in our guest car at the Grand Prix track in Anderstorp gives extra goosebumps to many racing enthusiasts, including me," says Raine Wermelin, Director Porsche Sweden.
