Jones doubles up as Team Parker Racing wins at Le Mans

Team Parker Racing enjoyed a winning trip to Le Mans as Nick Jones claimed a pair of class victories with his SD Team Porsche 911 GT3 R in the Porsche Sprint Challenge France support races alongside the 24-Hour contest.

The Welshman travelled to the same event last year and, thoroughly enjoying the experience, signed up for a return this time out in front of a capacity crowd which returned to the iconic venue for the first time since the pandemic.

There was an early setback for the team as the car required an engine and gearbox change after problems in free practice, but that didn’t hold Nick back as he promptly claimed pole position in the ‘R’ class for both races.

In a multi-class field of Porsches from a variety of series, it would be the latest 992-style Cup cars which would top the times, thanks to superior top speed around the 13.626 km (8.467 miles), 38-turn circuit.

Nick enjoyed battles with rivals from that class as he consistently ran inside the top ten for the 45-minute races, finishing both contests eighth overall but more importantly well clear of any GT3 R rivals, taking two special trophies home with him.

He will be back out on track in two weeks’ time alongside team-mate Scott Malvern as the British GT Championship heads to Snetterton in Norfolk for two 60-minute races, the fifth and six of the 2022 season.

Nick Jones “I’m delighted to come back home with two wins at Le Mans! A big thanks to the team who worked really hard, as ever, to fix the problems after practice and get the car ready for qualifying. I couldn’t do it without their hard work. It is such an incredible venue and not many people get to race around the track, so I feel privileged to have been able to come back this year and who knows, maybe we’ll return in the future.”
