KCMG Ready for 24 Hours of Spa return with Porsche-Supported entry
KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) is set to return to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the 2022 TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa on 28-31 July, with a Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific-supported entry consisting of Nick Tandy, Laurens Vanthoor and Dennis Olsen.
For the third successive year, the Hong-Kong based squad enters the event with factory support from the German marque in the #47 Porsche 911 GT3 R, and the team are set to launch a special livery for the race. 2020 winners Tandy and Vanthoor helped to deliver KCMG’s best-ever result on the circuit during last year’s edition of the Belgian enduro, taking a strong fifth-place finish.
All three drivers have competed with KCMG so far this year, as Vanthoor and Olsen claimed a podium finish at the team’s debut Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, while last month, Olsen and Tandy teamed up at the ADAC TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Nürburgring,
The 24 Hours of Spa was first held in 1924, one year after the initial running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race made use of the original 15-km circuit until it moved to the present 7.004-km layout in 1979. Prior to the start of the current motorsport season, the track underwent changes to its famous Eau Rouge/Raidillon complex, with more run-off added to improve safety.
KCMG will be out on track during the event’s Official Test, which takes place on 21-23 June, ahead of the main event at the end of July.
NICK TANDY
“It’s really exciting to be already looking ahead to the next endurance classic, and to team up with KCMG after our taking on the N24 together last month. We worked well at the Nürburgring, so it feels right to continue with the team for the next big GT event. I’m very happy to be back in the car alongside Laurens, having won the Spa 24 Hours together two years ago, and with Dennis onboard also, we aren’t there just to make up the numbers!”
LAURENS VANTHOOR
“I’m delighted to be taking on Spa with KCMG again. We have some unfinished business together since our last race together at Daytona, so it would be brilliant to end the season with victory at the 24 Hours of Spa. I’ve raced alongside Dennis a lot in the past and I’ve known Nick a very long time. I think we’ve a great line up, which adds to an already strong team. Porsche has always been competitive at this circuit, so we have no reason to not aim for a win and to bring home some silverware.”
DENNIS OLSEN
“It’s great to be heading back to Spa with KCMG and to join Laurens and Nick for the event. They’re two brilliant drivers and we have a good chance to score a big result for the team. Having the consistency throughout the year after competing in Daytona, the Nürburgring and now Spa, is the right way to approach the weekend and we’re really looking forward to it. With the new tyres providing more grip and a wider working range, as well as some of the changes to the circuit since last year’s race, we really have to use the Official Test to our advantage in our preparation and hopefully we can be rewarded with a positive result.”
MATT HOWSON TEAM MANAGER
“We’re excited to be returning to the 24 Hours of Spa with Porsche and even more so with such a talented driver line-up. Laurens and Nick helped KCMG to its best-ever result on the circuit in fifth last year, and Laurens was part of our squad that took a podium finish at Daytona in January. Nick also returned with Dennis for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring last month, and thanks to this continuity, we’re feeling strong. It’ll be as competitive as ever for this event, but we’re ready to fight and challenge as best we can.”
PAUL IP KCMG FOUNDER
“I can’t wait to see the team return to the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, for the third time with Porsche. We’re very keen to ensure that we build on our result in 2021 for this year’s event and along with the support from Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, we’ll be aiming for a really strong result. We have three brilliant drivers in Nick, Laurens and Dennis, who’ve all raced for KCMG throughout the season so far. With the crew constantly gaining experience during our races at Daytona and the Nürburgring, they’re ready to give it everything to challenge at the sharp end at Spa!”
ALEXANDRE GIBOT MANAGING DIRECTOR, PORSCHE MOTORSPORT ASIA-PACIFIC LTD.
“After their impressive result last year, we are delighted to see KCMG returning to Spa-Francorchamps for the 24-hour race once again. It’s one of the biggest events on the endurance calendar, and one that poses an incredible challenge for the drivers and teams that take it on. It’s great to see three very talented drivers coming together in Nick, Laurens and Dennis, and with such a trio, as well as the equally hard-working team behind them, it’s going to be really exciting to see what they can achieve in the race. I wish them all the best and I will be looking forward to watching their progress at Spa.”
