Klein takes double at Imola

After Saturday's success, the two-time French champion also won race 2 ahead of Braschi (the best among the Rookies) and Masters, with which he brought the absent Ten Voorde closer in the overall standings and reopened the chase for the title. In the Michelin Cup Brusa dominates and in two weeks the appointment is in Vallelunga for the penultimate round of the season

Between rain, twists and turns during and post-race and emotions, in Imola it is again Marvin Klein who has the better of the fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia on Sunday. A Sunday that the French driver of Target Competition – Centro Porsche Bolzano crowns exactly as he did on Saturday, when he won from pole in race 1. This time on pole, by just one thousandth, was Lirim Zendeli (Ombra Racing – Centro Porsche Bergamo), but in the wet Klein overtook him on the second lap and then maintained the lead of race 2. Between three safety car periods and a full course yellow final, the two-time French champion then resisted the attacks of a very fast Francesco Braschi, the 19-year-old standard bearer of Dinamic Motorsport – Centro Porsche Verona second at the finish line and the second podium of the season also as a young talent included in the Porsche Italia Scholarship Programme. The silver medal of the day also counts as success for the driver from Cattolica, while third overall and again on the podium after the place of honor taken on Saturday is Keagan Masters at the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup of the Q8 Hi Perform Team. Thanks to the results of Imola, the Masters himself and Klein have recovered many points from the absent championship leader Larry Ten Voorde and the chase for the title will resume even more balanced and heated the next round, the penultimate on the calendar scheduled for the weekend of September 22 at the Autodromo di Vallelunga.

At Imola on the grid of race 2, treacherous due to the weather conditions and fought until the end, the general choice was to line up with rain tires, with the exception of Flavio Olivieri (Raptor Engineering – Centro Porsche Catania) and Alex De Giacomi (Tsunami RT – Centro Porsche Latina), who risked the Michelin slicks. The first positions are outlined in the early stages with the aforementioned overtaking of Klein at Zendeli (then seventh at the finish line also passed in sequence by his pursuers) and with that of Braschi at the expense of Masters. In the last laps, however, Oliver Gray, 19-year-old British rookie of Ombra Racing – Centro Porsche Torino, earned a convincing fourth place in a top-5 completed by Simone Iaquinta. The two-time champion of Prima Ghinzani – Centri Porsche di Milano adds fifth place to the first podium of the season obtained in race 1, followed by a lively Bayley Hall. The young Australian is the first standard bearer of BeDriver – Centro Porsche Piacenza at the finish line after teammate Alberto Cerqui finishes wide at the Acque Minerali on the penultimate lap and relegates to tenth position. Sam Jongejan (Enrico Fulgenzi Racing – Centro Porsche Udine), who spun in the gravel of Tamburello, leaves the scene at the halfway point of the race, and so the top-10 behind Zendeli seventh is completed by the comebacks of rookie Daniel Gregor, eighth with The Driving Experiences – Centro Porsche Parma, and two-time champion Gianmarco Quaresmini, ninth with Tsunami RT – Centro Porsche Brescia. A place in the top-10 was also within Olivieri's reach. With slick tires, the 17-year-old Raptor Engineering driver after a few laps from the start and with the track slowly drying began to lap faster than everyone else, so much so that he set the fastest lap of the race, the ninth in 1'54"316. The rain, although light, in the final stages began to fall again along the track and the curb of Rivazza 1 was fatal for the ambitions of the Roman rookie, who ended up in a spin with the involvement of other cars forced to stop.

In the Michelin Cup the outsider on dry tyres was De Giacomi, but the rider from Brescia ran into a spin that caused him to slip from the podium positions to sixth position. The race in the category reserved for semi-professional drivers and gentleman drivers greeted the first victory of Cesare Brusa, who also took pole in the category. Behind the driver from Bergamo of Prima Ghinzani – Porsche Centers of Milan was Francesco Maria Fenici (Raptor Engineering – Porsche Centers of Rome), who with second place returned to the lead in an increasingly exciting ranking. On the podium was also his direct rival and winner of race 1 Alberto De Amicis (Ebimotors – Centro Porsche Varese), who in turn preceded his teammate Paolo Gnemmi (fourth) and the Romanian of Villorba Corse – Centro Porsche Treviso Horia-Traian Chirigut, who in race 2 adds the top-5 to the first podium achieved in race 1.

Klein resists and wins race 1 at Imola

At the resumption after the summer break, the French driver inaugurated the second half of the season from pole position and defended his success from the pressure of Masters (2nd), while Iaquinta (3rd) climbed on his first podium of the season and De Amicis made a comeback in the Michelin Cup. With 32 911 GT3 Cups entered, race 2 will take place on Sunday at 12.00 with Zendeli, winner of Saturday among the Rookies, on pole by one thousandth!

After the August break, the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia returned to the track at the Imola circuit for the fourth round of the season. The second half of the 2024 edition of the Italian one-make series opened on Saturday with a race 1 full of twists and turns and characterized by three safety cars. After a good start from pole position, Marvin Klein (Target Competition – Centro Porsche Bolzano) was among the 32 protagonists at the start and controlled the operations until he scored an important victory at the finish line, his second of the season, but he had to resist the suffocating pressure of Keagan Masters on several occasions, then second on the podium at the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup of Team Q8 HI Perform ahead of a rediscovered Simone Iaquinta (Prima Ghinzani – Porsche Centers of Milan). After qualifying in the morning, Klein had been promoted to pole position as a result of the penalty imposed on Lirim Zendeli. The Ombra Racing – Centro Porsche Bergamo driver had set the best time in 1'43"313, 59 thousandths faster than his French rival, but was penalized 5 positions on the grid for impeding after slowing down the group excessively during a full course yellow.

On a Saturday characterized by ideal weather, a hard-fought race 1 and many exciting duels on the track, as well as the absence of the current leader Larry Ten Voorde, Klein with the victory and Masters with the second place (and the fastest lap obtained on the fifth lap in 1'44"545) shortened the distance from the Dutch ace. Francesco Braschi battled with them for the victory for a long time, but the rookie of Dinamic Motorsport – Centro Porsche Verona raised the white flag at the restart from the second safety car, when after a couple of "long" he returned to the pits with obvious problems. After a cautious start, Iaquinta had meanwhile moved back behind the leaders, being ready to grab his first podium of the season. Zendeli also duelled with the Calabrian driver, then fourth in the final neutralized by the third safety car, which saw him parade to the finish line as the winner in the Rookie classification. After already a competitive qualifying, Benjamin Paque showed mature management of the most agitated phases in race 1. The young standard bearer of Target Competition – Centro Porsche Trento, making his debut in the Carrera Cup Italia, has always remained among the best and, despite suffering the return of Iaquinta and Zendeli, he has obtained valuable points for the team, which in addition to Klein's success celebrated the top-5 of the 19-year-old Belgian driver. Among the young riders, Nicholas Pujatti, still 16 years old, took the 911 GT3 Cup of Villorba Corse – Centro Porsche Treviso from tenth place at the start to sixth place at the finish line. A comeback characterized by decisive overtaking maneuvers that crowned with the best personal result the step of maturity taken by the Pordenone, absolute rookie in motor racing.

Pujatti (second behind Zendeli in the Rookie standings) dueled for a long time in the brawls that decided the final top-10 and preceded two experienced rivals such as Diego Bertonelli, seventh with the 911 GT3 Cup of The Driving Experiences – Porsche Centers of Rome and Alberto Cerqui. The driver from Brescia of BeDriver – Centro Porsche Piacenza finished in eighth place ahead of the young Australian teammate Bayley Hall (Centro Porsche Napoli), while Aldo Festante is tenth with Dinamic Motorsport – Centro Porsche Bologna.

On the Santerno circuit, not even the contenders for the Michelin Cup were spared, which finds Alberto De Amicis (Ebimotors – Centro Porsche Varese) winner and at the top of the overall category standings despite the second place clawed in a comeback by Francesco Maria Fenici (Raptor Engineering – Porsche Centers of Rome). The reigning champion managed to avoid all high-risk situations and took the lead of race 1 on lap 9, when the momentary leader Gianluca Giorgi (BeDriver – Centro Porsche Piacenza), author of a lightning start, ended up in the gravel at Acque Minerali after a contact with rookie Matteo Segre (Ombra Racing). With Giorgi's 911 GT3 Cup remaining between the curb and the trajectory, in addition to handing over the lead of the category to De Amicis, the episode forced the use of the safety car, as before, on lap 6, when, all fighting with each other, a carom starring Paolo Gnemmi (Ebimotors – Centro Porsche Varese) and other drivers forced Alex De Giacomi (Tsunami RT – Centro Porsche Latina) and Stefano Stefanelli (Team Malucelli – Centro Porsche Mantova) to retire. both ended up off the track. Gnemmi, on the other hand, lost positions to Horia-Traian Chirigut, who took advantage of the chaos to finish third surprisingly and for the first time on the Michelin Cup podium with Villorba Corse – Centro Porsche Treviso, and Ilarione Introna, fourth with Prima Ghinzani – Centri Porsche di Milano right in front of Gnemmi. Starting from the pole position of the category, after a good start in the podium positions, Cesare Brusa (Prima Ghinzani – Centro Porsche Padova, sixth at the finish line) was not particularly lucky in the various stages of the tussle.
