Koen Wauters with Belgium Racing at the start of Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux
After Belgium Racing confirmed earlier this month that two-time champion Dylan Derdaele will defend his title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, the Limburg team also officializes the comeback of Koen Wauters today in the fastest brand cup in the Low Countries. Both Dylan Derdaele and Koen Wauters thus add a sprint component to their program in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup type 992.
“I am very pleased that Koen Wauters is once again joining forces with Belgium Racing. After already contesting a few Belcar races last year with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup type 992, the global health crisis threw a spanner in the works at the end of the season” , says Belgium Racing Program Manager Marc Goossens.“That's a shame, because the intrinsic speed was there in 2021, with a podium place in the last race as proof. Together with brother Kris, he will compete in the full season in the Belcar Endurance Championship in 2022, as a result of which the Clouseau brothers also score points in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux. Because the focus in endurance races differs from that in sprint races, we decided to let Koen also complete a program in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. That should allow him to get the most out of the Porsche #97 in Ivanti colors as quickly as possible.”
“It feels good to have a full program ahead of us in 2022, ” Koen Wauters laughs.“In addition to the professional agenda with Clouseau, luckily there is also room to race, but I also want to be well prepared there. Belgium Racing is also known for its bold approach and that was confirmed once again in the tests we completed earlier this year. It was therefore obvious for me to do business with Belgium Racing again. Although of course you don't forget racing, I nevertheless found that I was missing some race rhythm. In consultation with the team, we have therefore decided to also appear at the start in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. Sprint races are often held on the cutting edge and in the short races you can't really hide as a rider. The aim is therefore to learn a lot in the short term in order to support our Belcar campaign in this way. I'm excited!"
The season opener of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux is scheduled for May 6 at the world-famous Formula 1 circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
