Laurin Heinrich wins in Zandvoort
It was the weekend of the newcomers in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: Rookie Laurin Heinrich won the sixth round at the Circuit Zandvoort ahead of Leon Köhler. The two Germans drive for Nebulus Racing by Huber. The team will contest its debut season in the international one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Heinrich and Köhler had also started the 16-lap race on the Dutch Formula 1 circuit together from the front row of the grid. In the end, the 19-year-old from Würzburg and the 22-year-old from Kleinwallstadt in Franconia were able to distance the field of pursuers by more than four seconds.
"Pole position and first victory in the Supercup – my weekend went perfectly.
I spared my tyres in the race and was able to improve a little bit every time Leon came closer," Heinrich revealed. "Laurin had advantages in the fast corners, I in the slow ones. As a result, I never had a real chance to attack. But I'm also super satisfied with second place," Köhler summarized. "For me, both are winners today," team boss Christoph Huber praised his winning duo. "We have continuously improved since the beginning of the season and can now celebrate a double victory – I'm super proud of my team."
For Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, the success of Nebulus Racing by Huber was further proof of the successful concept of the one-make cup: "We always strive to bring the best teams from the national Porsche Carrera Cups into the international Supercup.
This strategy has been working for years and has proven to be the right one this year as well. Congratulations to Christoph Huber and his entire team."
Heinrich improved to third place overall with his first Supercup victory and extended his lead in the rookie standings.
Nicolas Misslin (Pierre Martinet by Alméras) also achieved a similar performance. The Monegasque won the ProAm classification for the fourth time and in turn increased his lead in this category.
Behind Heinrich and Köhler, Dinamic Motorsport driver Simone Iaquinta celebrated his best Supercup result to date with third place. "I had a perfect start and was able to overtake Ayhancan Güven immediately. He then attacked for 16 laps. But I didn't let myself be made nervous," commented the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy. Porsche Junior Güven paid tribute: "Strong manoeuvre by Simone at the start – after that I had no real chance to overtake. But I'm happy to take the points for fourth place with me," confirmed the BWT Lechner Racing driver from Turkey.
Championship leader Larry ten Voorde finished fifth.
The favourite of the Dutch fans was quite satisfied with the course of the race. "I managed a super overtaking manoeuvre against Dylan Pereira in the steep corner, which was fantastic racing. In addition, I have extended my lead in the overall standings – what more could I want," commented the reigning Supercup champion from Team GP Elite. Jaxon Evans (Martinet by Alméras), Ten Voorde's only remaining competitor in the title race, experienced a race to forget. "I missed the pace throughout the weekend. Now I have to concentrate fully on the final in Monza," summarized the New Zealander, who only finished tenth. His gap to Ten Voorde before the remaining two races: 25 points.
Nevertheless, Evans still has a chance of winning the title: At the season finale next weekend, there are another 50 points to be won – the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will host two races as part of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza (10 to 12 September 2021).
