Long-awaited collaboration finally comes to an end – Daniel Roos ready for Fragus Motorsport

Daniel Roos drives for Fragus Motorsport 2023. A qualified newcomer with extensive experience in many classes, but who has never before competed in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. "But now it's happening. It's going to be a pretty big challenge, but it's going to be fun. On all levels, says the 33-year-old from Sundsvall.

Daniel Roos is one of Swedish racing's most successful and versatile drivers. He won his first Swedish Championship title in karting as a 15-year-old and since then he has also won Formula Ford Zetec (2005), Formula Renault 2.0 (2010), Swedish GT (2016, 2017) and GT4 Scandinavia (2019, 2022). At home, the Roos have also made appearances in the Camaro Cup and STCC, among others. But in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, the audience has never seen him.

"The Porsche Carrera Cup has been the brother's territory," Daniel says with a laugh. Big brother Fredrik was involved when Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia started in 2004. Second-place in the first year, he followed up with two straight titles. In 2019, Fredrik also made a temporary comeback and was third in the Porsche Approved Cup.

Hungry for Carrera Cup for a long time
But now it is four years younger brother Daniel who takes over. "The Carrera Cup is an interesting class that I've always wanted to try. But that hasn't happened. There have been budget reasons, stuff that has crashed and other things that have stood in the way. The reasons why Fragus Motorsport today can present Daniel Roos as the new driver in the team are many.

"One is of course that I've known the Fragus gang for a long time and we've always talked about doing something together. Robin and I shared a car in Swedish GT 2018 and ever since then we have been talking about a continuation in some way. But that hasn't happened, until now.

"Another reason is that after two starts in a cup Porsche in the Dubai 24 Hours, I have become eager to compete more in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). In Dubai, I have ridden as fast or even faster than the champions of recent years in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. You can interpret that in different ways, but it has at least made me curious about and see what I can do even here at home.

No transition problems
In recent years, Daniel Roos has mostly been associated with long-distance racing. In total, he has seven 24-hour starts to his credit and he has also had a few 12-hour races. Roos has also been one of the most successful drivers in Swedish GT and GT4 Scandinavia. In the latter championship, he, along with Erik Behrens, is the reigning champion of Alfab Racing's McLaren 570s. "But I don't think the transition from long-distance racing to sprint racing will be a problem.

The format of the Porsche Carrera Cup is like half a GT race with the positive difference that in the Carrera Cup you can push a full 30 minutes. When you share an hour-long race in GT4, you have to hold back a little so that the other poor thing can drive a little, says Roos and laughs. Then he adds: "I don't see switching to sprint races as a major problem. Perhaps the biggest thing will be to drive without ABS and to compete on Michelin tires again. That was a few years ago.

Wants to compete with the best
Daniel Roos enters Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia with high ambitions.

"I want to perform at my best, measure myself against the best. The goal for the year is to keep up and challenge five-time champion Lukas Sundahl, who is a true Porsche specialist. Whether I succeed remains to be seen, but when we met in GT4 cars at Spa last summer, he was at least after me. "Fragus also has high ambitions and you don't want to let them down, so you have to do your best," daniel adds. "Our demands on Daniel are none other than that he should have fun. He probably has high enough demands on himself," says Fragus Motorsports' Robin Hansson, who really welcomes the collaboration with Roos.

"We've been talking about this for a long time. Glad it finally fit and that we managed to sew it together. It will be great fun to do this with Daniel, who is a fantastic person and a very good and fast driver.

In addition to Daniel Roos, it is also clear that Hampus Hedin continues in Fragus Motorsport and thus makes his fifth season in the championship.
"Soon, we hope to be able to present more drivers for the 2023 season," says Hansson.

Intensive season
Alongside the investment in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, Daniel Roos will continue to compete for Alfab Racing in GT4 Scandinavia. This year, he and Behrens will compete in a new McLaren Ventura. "It's going to be an intense season. I think I counted eleven or twelve races.

Unfortunately, two collide. Porsche Carrera Cup in Fällfors and GT4 at Spa in Belgium at the turn of the month June-July. "It's a dilemma, but there and then you'll see in which championship you're best at," jokes Roos, who is really looking forward to his debut season in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia.

"It's going to be fun on all levels – to work with the guys in Fragus again, to run something new in Sweden and to compete in Le Mans where I actually participated in a support race once upon a time. There are so many positive things ahead.
