MDK Motorsports Announces First Entry in Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS
After finding success across multiple Porsche single-make series, MDK Motorsports is stepping up to compete in the SRO Motorsports America sanctioned Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS.
This will be the first Fanatec GT World Challenge entry for MDK Motorsports, with Trenton Estep and Seth Lucas leading the charge in a Porsche 992 GT3 R. While Estep will be making his SRO Motorsports debut, he brings a surplus of experience in Porsche competition, including the 2018 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA title and most recently a competitor in the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup North America field.
Lucas, meanwhile, joins MDK Motorsports for 2023 and is new to the Porsche, but familiar with SRO. Most recently at the 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge eight-hour finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas scored the Am class victory in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 and the Ohioan was named the GT America class Rookie of the Year.
MDK Motorsports looks to translate its past success in the Porsche brand to GTWC, as the series boasted six different marques at the finale last month. However, in just this past season alone – MDK’s first in competition – the team scored season-long championships in both the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America and Carrera Cup North America series. The team also unveiled a sweeping expansion to its Ohio-based shop, matching its uptick in endeavors for 2023.
The 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge America calendar consists of 13 rounds across seven event weekends, starting with a doubleheader at Sonoma Raceway on March 30 and concluding with the fan-favorite Indianapolis eight-hour in October.
Quotes:
Seth Lucas: “The race season just ended but I am already anxious to get the 2023 season started. I am thankful to have the opportunity to join the MDK Motorsports family as we have goals and aspirations that are aligned with one another. I learned a lot this past year and can’t wait to put those experiences and knowledge to use in my run for additional race wins and a series title.”
Trenton Estep: “This is definitely the biggest step in my career and to sign it with a team of this stature just makes it that much more exciting for me. I think to sign a full-season contract with a GT3 car in any series across the world is a special thing, so I’m excited for what’s to come. SRO is a super competitive series and a new one for me. It will definitely be a learning year for me as a driver with a new car, new series, and some new tracks. That being said, I know the preparation that’s going on in the off-season and I’m confident we will have a good year.”
Mark Kvamme: “When we started MDK, we wanted to create a team where young drivers could find a home to develop their skill and talent. Seth has quickly demonstrated his talent behind the wheel, and we look forward to him and Trenton competing for the SRO Motorsports Fanatec GT World Challenge America Championship!”
