Ola Nilsson broke Lukas Sundahl's five-year winning streak and won the 20th edition of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia
The 36-year-old, who works as sales manager at Porsche Center Malmö, won the title in an exciting and entertaining season finale at Mantorp Park. In front of nearly 10,000 spectators, Nilsson won both final races ahead of his main rivals, Hampus Ericsson, and Lukas Sundahl. Sundahl finished second in the championship, Ericsson third.
Not many believed in Ola Nilsson as champion after the race at Drivecenter Arena in northern Sweden (round 4 and 5). He was left without any points in the first two of the four races and fell to third place in the table, 44 points behind the reigning champion Sundahl.
But Nilsson's finish with seven wins in the last eight races – all three in the penultimate event at Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway – was masterful and took him all the way to his first Carrera Cup title, a nice revenge for last year when he lost to Sundahl by a one-point margin only. This year he was three points ahead.
The Porsche Carrera Cup title was also Nilsson's team, Mtech Competition's first in the championship.
In the Pro Am category, Mikael Karlsson defended his big lead and ended the season in the best way possible by winning the class in the last heat. Second and third in the championship were Kjelle Lejonkrans and Christoffer Bergström.
Mikael Karlsson and Lukas Sundahl, along with Albin Wärnelöv, were all contributing to Micke Kågered Racing’s success in the team championship, celebrating their second consecutive victory.
18-year-old William Siverholm, who secured his second straight title in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia back in August, ended the season with a double victory at Mantorp Park. With 13 out of 14 possible race victories, he broke Marcus Annervis' record from the premiere season in 2021.
During the final weekend, Dane Gustav Krogh climbed from fourth to second place in the Porsche Sprint Challenge. Third was Markus Lönnroth. Krogh also won in the championship's GT4 category.
Indycar star Marcus Ericsson, winner of the 2022 Indy 500, made his second straight appearance in a Porsche Carrera Cup final. After two tough starts, he entertained the crowd with many overtakes and advanced to double ninth places.
On the occasion of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia's 20th anniversary, all former champions were invited to Mantorp Park. Six out of eight had the opportunity to attend and paid tribute to the new champion, Ola Nilsson, in connection with the award ceremony. The former champions who attended were (from left in the picture): Edward Sandström, Robin Rudholm, Oscar Palm – Ola Nilsson – Lukas Sundahl, Johan Kristoffersson and Fredrik Ros.
The season ended with the seasonal award prize giving ceremony on Saturday night in the hospitality Porsche Race Lounge. Here also the winners of the TAG Heuer Fastest Lap Award received their prices – a nice time piece from TAG Heuer. The winners were Hampus Ericsson and Mikael Karlsson (Pro AM).
Over 350 guests enjoyed the hospitality during the finale. TAG Heuer was present and displayed the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche among other exclusive time pieces. Here, guests such as PAG Brand ambassador Aksel Lund Svindal, skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark, world rally champion (1984) Stig Blomqvist and members of the Swedish Royal family could enjoy the food and relax.
In the exhibition Porsche Expo, we showcased the new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé and the 911 Dakar with a rooftop rack. A selection of Porsche Lifestyle products was available for purchase and partners such as Michelin, CTEK, Hexis and Prinsparets Stiftelse were also present. As fall is approaching, a Taycan Cross Turismo equipped with a roof tent, bicycle rack, and a Porsche eBike was on display in an area just outside the Porsche Expo. A nice little display of the many products offered for outdoor activities through Porsche Tequipment.
For the fourth time this year Sportscar Together Day was arranged. Close to 950 Porsche registered to visit Mantorp Park and the season finale. Not only did the Porsche parking area contribute with a magnificent framing of the event, every car also contributed with 100 SEK to Prinsparets Stiftelse and their work against cyber bullying through the initiative #nejtillnäthat.
Just before the final race of the season, a Porsche 911 parade entered the track at Mantorp Park in celebration of the 60-year anniversary of the 911. A total of 18 cars participated and all generations were represented. The parade was made possible thanks to Porsche enthusiasts from Porsche Club Sweden, Porsche Center Linköping and Mantorp Park.
During the practice day two trackday passes were held with in total over 100 2-door street legal Porsches participating.
