Porsche with first fastest time at the Red Bull Ring

Porsche and Lamborghini determined the first free practice session of the German GT Championship at the Red Bull Ring. Porsche driver Mathieu Jaminet (26 / F), who is currently leading the table with SSR Performance team-mate and defending champion Michael Ammermüller (35 / Rotthalmünster), drove the fastest lap of the session. Just behind: two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo of the local heroes GRT Grasser Racing Team. The two races will be broadcast live on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. on free TV by TV partner NITRO. They can be seen in the live stream for free at TVNOW.de and at adac.de/motorsport

Jaminet's record was 1.29.451 minutes at the end of the 60-minute session. The French scored this lap in the first quarter of an hour of training. “So far it looks good,” said the 2018 champion. “Of course, it's better to be ahead than behind. But of course we don't know whether the other teams showed everything. The car works well, I drove a good lap. The track already offers a lot of grip. It's a lot of fun to drive here. "

The Frenchman's closest pursuer was Lamborghini works driver Mirko Bortolotti (31 / I). He shares the fastest Huracán of the GRT Grasser Racing Team with Albert Costa Balboa (31 / E). The Italian, who lives in Vienna, came within 78 thousandths of a second to the fastest time. Team mates Rolf Ineichen (42 / CH) and Franck Perera (37 / F) followed in third place with a time of 1.29.699 minutes.

The best Austrian in the first training session was the fourth Porsche works driver, Thomas Preining (22 / A), who takes turns in the 911 GT3 R with defending champion Christian Engelhart (34 / Starnberg). “Fourth place is ok,” says the native of Linz. “We're still trying something out on the set-up. On this track you always have to find the balance between the highest possible top speed and good performance in the middle sector in the fast corners. We are working on that now. We are getting closer and closer to it all. I'm a little surprised that Porsche is doing so well because that's not usually our track. So I'm very optimistic about the race. It's all open. We can have a good weekend. "

The top five in the first practice session was completed by the Audi R8 LMS of Team WRT of newcomer Dennis Lind (28 / DK) and Dries Vanthoor (22 / B).
