Proton Huber Competition celebrates double title win in Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe

Proton Huber Competition's participation in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe was a success. The team celebrated a double title win and strong race results on the Iberian peninsula.

In recent weeks, Proton Huber Competition contested the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe on racetracks in Portugal and Spain. The team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria fielded six Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars throughout the season. While Alexander Tauscher, Sebastian Freymuth, Horst Felix Felbermayr and Josh Stanton drove in the Sport Division, Robert Sulma and Merabi Mekvabishvili competed in the Club Division. With Flynt Schuring (Sport Division) and Marcelo Tomasoni (Club Division), the team also fielded an additional car in both Valencia and Barcelona.

Robert Sulma was able to celebrate twice after the season finale in Barcelona. The ambitious gentleman driver drove the 911 GT3 Cup to the title win in the Club Division and in the Am class. Sulma drove to two victories on his way to the title and finished on the podium in six out of eight races this season. Merabi Mekvabishvili performed consistently throughout the season in the Proton Huber Competition car and finished the season in seventh place in the Am category. Marcelo Tomasoni also impressed in the guest start at the season finale in Barcelona - the Brazilian drove a new car straight to pole position on an unfamiliar track and finished fifth in the race.

The races in the Sport Division were also successful for Proton Huber Competition. Alexander Tauscher won the season opener in Portimão. The driver from Lower Bavaria lost another race win in Valencia due to questionable decisions by the stewards. He finished the season in second place in both the Sport Division and the Pro class with two further podium results. Sebastian Freymuth followed directly behind in third place in the Pro class. Freymuth finished second twice on the former Formula 1 circuit in Estoril.

Horst Felix Felbermayr was able to continue his improved form from the final phase of the 2023 season on the Iberian peninsula during the winter months and put in a strong performance in the high-calibre field of competitors. He ultimately finished the season in twelfth place after losing important points following a serious accident in Valencia and bad racing luck at the finale in Barcelona. Josh Stanton, who was hit by rivals in almost every race but was able to prove his talent with a fifth place in Valencia, was also unlucky. Flynt Schuring also lined up for the racing team from Hofkirchen in Valencia and impressed with a strong driving performance. However, after technical problems and a crash caused by a competitor, he was unable to finish.

"I am extremely satisfied with the sporting performance of our drivers in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe," said a delighted Franziska Lambacher, Project Manager Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe at Proton Huber Competition. "Thanks to Robert, we can celebrate two title wins, which is an extremely strong performance - congratulations to him! But our other drivers also all put in strong performances, which we are very pleased with. The races were also important for us as a team to regroup after a difficult year in 2023. We have grown together very strongly as a team over the events and have a very good atmosphere in the team, which is extremely important for the upcoming season."

After a promising start to the season in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe and with the GT3 car at the 24-hour race in Dubai in January, Proton Huber Competition is now looking forward to the 2024 season. The Hofkirchen-based team's exact racing programme will be announced shortly.
