Record-fast top trio in Roll Out at Mantorp Park

It went at record speed when the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia ran its annual Roll Out at Mantorp Park on April 19-20. The top three in the field were clocked for times under 1.15 minutes. Hampus Ericsson was fastest, closely followed by Daniel Roos and Ola Nilsson. Reigning champion Lukas Sundahl had to settle for the fourth best time.

Already on Wednesday, Hampus Ericsson, who switched to M3G Motorsport this season, showed that he can be counted on in this year's championship. With 1.14.897 he was the fastest and then the only driver under 1.15.

During Thursday's final session, Kumlasonen polished that time to 1.14.795, which was also the best lap time of the test days.
”It has been positive and different, simply a new chapter in Porsche's career. Sometimes you just need a fresh start to develop and I think that's what happened quite simply,” Ericsson said when summarizing the two intense days in Östergötland and added: ”In general, I am very happy with the team and the car. This is the best start you can get, so I am extremely satisfied and have a good feeling for the season. But I don't charge anything in advance. It is only in the premiere in Anderstorp in mid-May that the first points are awarded”.

M3G Motorsport came to Mantorp Park without a single test day behind them. They were relatively alone in that. Nevertheless, Hampus Ericsson was fastest, Emil Persson fifth and Gustav Bergström twelfth. ”It's a bit fun and interesting. The others are driving around and testing and this is our first day on the track”, noted Ericsson.

Daniel Roos is one of the newcomers that has been talked about a lot before this year's season. Many have singled him out as a hot title candidate. With all rights. At Mantorp Park, the Fragus Motorsport driver was second behind Ericsson. ”It has exceeded expectations. I thought I would be further away. Now we just have to turn the tables and be first as well”, said Roos before the final test sessions. In the last he hit with 1.14.862 and was only 67 thousandths behind Ericsson.

Third - also under 1.15 - was last year's championship runner-up Ola Nilsson, Mtech Competition, who with his effort at Mantorp Park confirmed that he starts this season on a completely different level than 2022. “It feels as if we start this season where we ended last year's. If you compare this roll out with the one a year ago, there is a huge difference. I feel much more at home with everything”, Ola said, adding:

“It has been two very good days. I have felt safe and stable the whole time and have had good speed in all sessions. We have worked through a large program and tested many things and changed a lot. The feeling is good”.

Behind the top three, reigning champion Lukas Sundahl had to settle for fourth place. An okay result, but….”If we had found on Wednesday what we found and corrected before the last session of the day, I would have been satisfied. Now I didn't really have time to trust the car to compete with the very fastest, he said”, among other things.

Despite Hampus Ericsson's record-fast best time - never before has anyone been under 1.15 with a Porsche Cup car at Mantorp Park - six drivers were less than half a second behind. In addition to those already mentioned, Emil Persson (fifth), Marcus Annervi (sixth) and Robin Knutsson (seventh) also succeeded.

In eighth place was the fastest Pro Am driver on the starting field, Mikael Karlsson, who until this season is a teammate of Sundahl in Micke Kågered Racing.
However, Karlsson was overshadowed by his Pro Am competitors Oscar Löfquist, Thomas Karlsson and Christoffer Bergström. About four tenths differed between them.

The premiere of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia 2023 will be held at Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp 12-13 May.
