The Challenge has only just begun

After the action-packed PSCCE season opener at the Red Bull Ring, the one-make cup continues its tour in neighbouring Slovakia less than two weeks later (11/12 June). The 5.9-kilometre Slovakia Ring has hosted the PSCCE season opener in each of the last two years. Last year, Sascha Halek secured victory in both sprint races, while with the German duo of Jonas Greif and Eddy Waldhier surprisingly two rookies lifted the winner's trophy in the 100-mile race. This year, the challenging track not far from the pulsating capital Bratislava is the second race day on the calendar. Since the event at the Red Bull Ring, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup has added extra spice to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 line-up. From ambitious youngsters to experienced GT champions, everyone can find the thrill he or she is looking for in the championship organised by Lechner Racing.

Class battles

Freddy Fast and Max Werndl (AUT/GER, Keep It Gold Racing) travel to the Slovakia Ring with plenty of confidence and the usual cigar in their luggage. The GT3 duo won both their sprints and the Endurance race in Spielberg. Freddy Kremer (GER, Kremer Racing) and Alex Ellinger (AUT, Autopark Wien) were closest to their diffuser last time out – will they be able to take revenge? The hunted in the GT4 are Jonas Greif (GER) and Frederick Jerich (AUT, both Junior Team Central Europe), for whom every point in the championship battle already counts. No less fiercely contested than the overall victories are the Pro, ProAM and AM classes. The GT4 ProAM classification is the closest: Leo Willert (AUT, Heizer Monkeys Racing Team) and Franz Dzwiok (POL, FA1 Racing) are tied on points going into the second race weekend. Local hero Branislav Micko (SVK, LAMA Racing) also wants to be in the mix in the coming race on Saturday.

Test, test, test!

All the participants will get plenty of driving time on Thursday and Friday to hone their skills and fiddle around with the set-up. Experienced instructors will be on hand to help the ladies and gentlemen in the Porsche Sprint Challenge. The hours of truth will then follow on Saturday, when four qualifying sessions are scheduled, divided into two groups for the GT3 Cup and two for the GT4 Clubsport. Points for the championship will then be contested in two sprint races (for double starters, only the better result will be counted) and the 100 Miles of Slovakia. The Challenge has only just begun.
