Turbulent season finale in the GT World Challenge Europe

From 30 September to 2 October, Herberth Motorsport started with a Porsche 911 GT3 R at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona at the last round of the GT World Challenge Europe. For Ralf Bohn and the twin brothers Robert and Alfred Renauer, it was about ending the season with a success. Before the final in Spain, the trio even had a mathematical chance of winning the Gold Cup title.

"We've had so much bad luck this season. After the victory in Imola, we were not able to confirm our potential with results in any race. The drama at Hockenheim also hit us particularly hard when we had a puncture at the last second. I think that we could have intervened much more strongly in the championship battle if we had not had the problems," said Alfred Renauer looking back on the season so far.

In Barcelona, the weekend started promisingly. In the practice sessions and in pre-qualifying, the trio always found themselves among the top 3 in the class. The likeable Porsche team was also able to create a comfortable starting position for the race. Ralf Bohn as well as Alfred and Robert Renauer started the last 3-hour race of the year from third place. "In the end, we missed around two tenths of a second for pole position, but that shouldn't throw us off track. We are well prepared and will give everything to be successful in the end," said Robert Renauer after qualifying.

For Herberth Motorsport, the race began turbulently: In the first third third of the race, the team defended third place and lost part of the front apron, which was not too much of a disadvantage for the Porsche. The fight in the championship came to a head when the direct competitors failed on the one hand and had a puncture on the other. By taking the lead, the team moved up to a single point to the lead of the standings. In the last half hour, however, Robert Renauer was involved in an accident, which threw the team back to third place. In the end, a podium finish and third place in the championship remained.

"It was like the whole year. We had ups and downs. I think if we had been less unlucky, we would have played an even bigger role in the championship. So we are left with third place and the hope that we will have more luck on our side again next year. Throughout the year, the team did a very good job and we proved that we have a very strong team," said Robert Renauer after a year that resembled a rollercoaster ride.
