Victory for the Porsche 930 Turbo Pascalou Racing at 6H Magny-Cours
At the end of a suspenseful race which will have known nine changes of leader, it is finally the Porsche 930 Turbo of the Pascalou Racing team driven by the crew Sébastien Crubile / Pascal Duhamel which wins the 6 Hours of Magny- General classification course.
It is exactly 6:13 p.m. when the start is given. The Porsche 930 Turbo of Pascalou Racing, author of the pole position the day before, starts at the head of the peloton. But quickly, the two prototypes of Equipe Palmyr went on the offensive and took control of the event. The March 81 S of “Nelson”/François Belle/Augustin Sanjuan leads until lap 3 before giving up its position to the Tiga SC 79 of Marc Faggionato/Christian Vaglio-Giors/Gislain Genecand (photo below in the center) which settled permanently in the lead during 114 of the 161 laps of the event. Unfortunately, shortly before 11:00 p.m., the Tiga SC 79 was reported idling with a plume of smoke billowing from its bodywork. It joined the pit lane, then stopped in its garage where the mechanics of Equipe Palmyr noted the breakage of a rear brake caliper. Time to carry out repairs and the Tiga SC 79 resumed the track in 3rd position. However, his delay on the new leader is too great to be filled. She will cross the finish line at this rank and will console herself by reaching the 3rd step of the podium.
Within the Palmyr Team, a first disappointment appeared earlier in the evening. In 2nd position since the start of the race, his March 81 S had been the victim of a broken gearbox, synonymous with retirement at the end of the 53rd lap.
As the two prototypes are no longer in a position to aim for victory, it will now be decided between the Porsche 930 Turbo of Pascalou Racing (Sébastien Crubile/Pascal Duhamel) and the BMW 635 CSI of the father/son crew (Paul , Jean-Baptiste and Matthieu Chateaux)(photo below on the left). The advantage will ultimately turn in favor of the GT from Stuttgart which wins with a lap ahead of the Munich sedan (victorious in the Tourism category).
The gain of 4th place in the general classification (also synonymous with victory in the Saloon Car category) gave rise to a great battle between the BMW 323i of the Eric Wassermann/Eric Baumard/Olivier Huez trio and the Porsche 944 S2 of the Cudini Racing Team driven by Arnold Noret/Franck Hardonniere/Bruno Vieren. Both had fuel problems. The BMW 323i, victim of a leak inside the cabin, was forced to stop to repair shortly before 8 p.m. While the Porsche 944 S2 experienced an abnormally long stop at the official refueling station at 8:20 p.m. and lost five minutes which will be recredited to it at the finish by the race management. In the end, the advantage will turn in favor of the BMW 323i of Wassermann Racing.
The Porsche 964 RS of the Pelletier father/son crew and the 964 of Romain Duval/Patrick Bonnardel/François Riaux, for their part, achieved a faultless course and took 6th and 7th place respectively in the general classification.
Despite gearbox problems, the Cudini Racing Team 911 3.2 entrusted to Christian Noret/Jacques Colibet/Philippe Vigneron finished 8th. After having been confronted with overdrive problems and oil leaks during qualifying, the Austin Healey 3000 MKII of the trio Sébastien Berchon/José and Jérémy Da Rocha (photo below on the left) lived a crystal clear race rewarded by the 9th position at the finish (1st in the GTS 12 category). The Bertramelli father/son family's Ford Escort MK1, forced to retire an hour before the checkered flag dropped, completed the Top 10 with 128 laps completed. Finally, the Porsche 3.0 RS of the Corsican crew of Le Duigou Racing made up of Louis Antonini/Jean-Pierre Raffalli/Pierre Vivier-Muglioni closes the final classification despite going off the track and having an oil tank problem.
Finishing the race out of classification after repairs: the Alfa Romeo Giulia of the CMR team (Georges Cabanne/Eric Guillaume/Laurent Fermaud); the Porsche 911 3.0 SC of the Flat Six Le Mans team of Christophe Gaultier/Pierre Le Flem/Stéphane Deshayes/Scher (rocker arm problems); as well as the Ford Capri Belga prepared by the Belgian team Royale Ecurie Azur for Jean-Pierre Baudart/Stéphane Charlier/Benoît Meurmans (broken universal joint and gear lever).
Among the retirements are: the Legendary Racing 911 3.0 RS in the colors of the famous American team Brumos entrusted to Franck Laga/Jean-Louis Meynart/Jérôme Cudennec (engine problems); the Marcos Mantis of Daventure Racing with the crew of Alexandre Jaboulet-Vercherre/Jean-Marc Bachelier/Laurent Collin (broken front right wheel shaft) and the March 81 S of "Nelson"/François Belle/Augustin Sanjuan (broken gearbox) already mentioned above.
After this exciting opening race, perfectly orchestrated and hailed by all the competitors, V de V Sports invites its crews keen on endurance events to meet for the flagship event of the season: the 2 Clock Towers (the only competition in the world of 24 uninterrupted hours reserved for VHCs) which will take place on November 4, 5 and 6 on the Paul Ricard circuit. A historic edition, not to be missed, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary!
