Will Aspin has eyes set on front of the field as Carrera Cup heads to Silverstone

Will Aspin is set to tackle the penultimate weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season, heading to Silverstone this weekend (September 22-24) as the series competes on the circuit’s short and exciting National layout.

It has been a frustratingly mixed campaign for the teenager, as impressive speed and performance on track has not been reflected in his race results. Last time out at Donington Park, for example, contact from a rival sent him off whilst running second in the Pro-Am class, and at Knockhill, he was caught up in an incident ahead of him with nowhere to go, again whilst second in class.

This weekend he tackles the 1.6-mile Silverstone National circuit, with just a handful of corners and three fast sections, meaning the action is fast and furious on track. It is also traditionally one of the closest on the calendar, with a mere 0.7s covering the top 17 qualifiers in 2022.

Will has two practice sessions on Friday 22nd, before qualifying on Saturday at 13:40. There are two 30 lap races scheduled for Sunday 24th at 12:10 and 16:15, both of which also being shown live on ITV4 in the United Kingdom.

“I’m excited for Silverstone. There are only three corners, but it is one of the hardest races because it is so close – last year only half a second covered the top ten. That means we have to work as hard as possible to be P1 in Pro-Am and not get caught up in the fights further back. We had lots of useful running at the Porsche test at Silverstone at the end of August, so we know what we need to do and it’s just about getting it done when we get to the circuit this week.”
