FIA WEC: Porsche protests continues
Alexander Stehlig has confirmed that Porsche protested the decision in the final phase of the FIA WEC race. The collision twelve minutes before the end of the race in the FIA WEC season finale in Bahrain continues to cause discussions from both Porsche and Ferrari fans. Alessandro Pier Guidi met Michael Christensen in the last corner, who then spun off the track. Victory and title went to Ferrari in Italy. The protest was later rejected but Porsche has appealed the rejection of its protest, likely bringing the case to the FIA International Court of Appeal.
Twelve minutes before the end of the race, the drama threatened to spill over into the GTE Pro class. Alessandro Pier Guidi shot Michael Christensen in the last corner. Immediately afterwards, the race management decided that Pier Guidi had to swap positions with Christensen again. This penalty was not carried out, there is a threat of a World Cup decision at the Green Table. The cheering of the AF Corse team after the end of the race caused a lot of misunderstanding among Porsche and many fans.
Pier Guidi was informed by the race management that he would have to swap positions with Christensen. As the Italian slowed to perform the swap, Christensen turned to a pit stop. The race management then informed the Ferrari factory driver that he could continue the journey
“For us it was a sad end to an extremely exciting race. Unfortunately, we were turned off the track by a competitor, ”says Alexander Stehlig, Head of Operations at the FIA WEC, summarizing his impressions. “We cannot understand the decision of the race management. At first it was said that the two leading cars would have to swap places after contact - so our Porsche would have moved up to the top again. A little later, the race management withdrew this announcement during a pit stop of our number 92. So we could not achieve our goals despite a fair and open fight. That's why we protested. "
