Fighting spirit rewarded with class victory in Dubai.
At the traditional season opener of the 24H Series in Dubai from 10 to 12 January, Herberth Motorsport fielded three Porsche 911 GT3 R. In the end, the Bavarian racing team was able to celebrate a strong team performance. Not only did all three crews make it into the top 12, the team also took a class victory and a class podium.
"Fielding three cars is a demanding task that demanded a lot from the entire team. The team gave everything over 24 hours and brought all three cars to the finish line in the end. That alone is an achievement of which we can be proud," team principal Alfred Renauer summed up. "There might have been a little more in it – but we can be satisfied with a victory and a podium finish in the classes."
In the ProAm category, Kay van Berlo, Jake Pedersen, Ralf Bohn and Alfred and Robert Renauer took the wheel of the 91. Over the race distance, the quintet always stayed in the top 10 and at times also had a podium finish in the overall standings in their sights. In the end, they took seventh place and thus victory in their class. "That was an exciting race. For us, it went back and forth again and again – minor problems unfortunately cost us a better result in the end. Nevertheless, we are happy about the class victory," said Robert Renauer.
The 80 sister car finished sixth overall, just ahead of the 91. Starting from 23rd place, Antares Au, Kevin Tse, Jonathan Hui and Frank Yu managed to fight their way forward and maintain their position in the leading group. Frequent changes of position with the 91 Porsche also made the team's internal duel exciting until the end. In the end, the quartet had just the better end for themselves and also jumped onto the Am podium in second place.
The third Porsche 911 GT3 R also competed in the Am classification. The 269 was driven by Vincent Kolb, Chris Breuer, Florian Spengler and Max Moritz. With a consistent performance and solid lap times, the quartet finished twelfth overall and fifth in class.
Herberth Motorsport will continue next weekend. Then the second race of the 24H Series season is on the agenda on January 18 and 19 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
