Larry ten Voorde also wins the third Supercup race of the season

Larry ten Voorde remains unbeaten in the current Supercup season. With his third consecutive victory, the Dutchman from team Schumacher CLRT extended his lead in the standings of the international one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Ten Voorde crossed the finish line first at the Red Bull Ring in Austria ahead of Britain’s Harry King, who drives for BWT Lechner Racing, and his French teammate Marvin Klein. The next Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race will take place already next weekend (5 to 7 July 2024) at Silverstone as part of the British Grand Prix support programme.

The opening lap on the Red Bull Ring was particularly turbulent. Marvin Klein, who started the race from pole position, had a less-than-ideal start and had to let his teammate Larry ten Voorde pass him. Harry King, who finished fourth in qualifying, promptly swept past Keagan Masters. As a result, a three-way battle for second place unfolded in the third and fourth corners. Klein and King made contact, costing both of them several positions. After the first lap, Ombra teammates Keagan Masters from South Africa and Lirim Zendeli from Germany held second and third place behind Larry ten Voorde, who had already pulled clear of the field.

In the remaining laps, Harry King and Marvin Klein treated the thousands of fans in the grandstands to a masterclass of pursuit racing. Having momentarily found himself in sixth place, King reemerged in the second position at the halfway point of the race. Klein had also ploughed his way through the field and was hot on King’s bumper. However, the Frenchman’s attempts to overtake were unsuccessful and the order remained the same until the chequered flag. Larry ten Voorde won by about four seconds; a staggering advantage by Supercup standards.

“I think that was my best Supercup start ever. I’d like to thank the technicians at my Schumacher CLRT team for that,” grinned ten Voorde. With his third win in the third race, the Dutchman extended his lead in the standings ahead of his rival Harry King. “Naturally, now I’ll do everything I can to achieve my fourth win in a row next week at Silverstone, one of my favourite racetracks.”

Harry King wasn’t wholly satisfied with second place. “My charge through the field underlined how fast I was today. I think I could’ve won the race,” mused the Briton. “I’ll just have to claim my first win of the season next week at my home race in Silverstone.”

Marvin Klein also struggled in the first lap, which cost him a chance at victory. “I locked the wheels under braking into the second corner. As a result, I lost the lead to Larry. That was okay, it was my mistake. After that, it was all a bit chaotic for my liking. I was lucky to come away from several small contacts with an undamaged car. At least I managed to improve to third place again,” he stated.

Mathys Jaubert passed the finish line fourth and best-placed rookie. However, the 19-year-old team Martinet by Alméras driver was handed a five seconds time penalty later. As final winner of the Rookie classification, Kas Haverkort (Uniserver by Team GP Elite) extended his lead in the overall standings.

Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, who also drives for Schumacher CLRT, finished in sixth place. “I just found myself in the wrong place at the wrong time too often today,” said the 22-year-old Frenchman. Guest driver Timo Glock finished in 16th place. The ex-Formula 1 driver also experienced a rollercoaster race in the cockpit of the VIP 911. “That was really wild. I think the midsummer temperatures went to people’s heads a bit,” commented the 40-year-old German. “But the most important thing is that I had a heap of fun and managed to put my experience to good use.” For some time, Glock had improved by nine positions from his qualifying result.

“Our drivers offered the spectators at the Red Bull Ring one-make cup racing at its very best. They delivered everything: thrilling overtaking moves, daring chases to catch up and plenty of drama. Congratulations to Larry ten Voorde on his third consecutive victory. The 2024 season continues to offer lots of variety,” commented Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
