Manthey EMA finishes the 2024 Nordschleife season with a podium finish in the NLS season finale
Manthey EMA secured its fifth NLS podium of the season with second place for the starting number 911 in the final round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), the 56. ADAC Barbarossapreis. For Ayhancan Güven (Turkey), this meant his third NLS podium in three races, while his team-mate during NLS 6 and Grello debutant Morris Schuring (Netherlands) achieved his first top-three result in a Porsche 911 GT3 R on the Nordschleife.
In Qualifying, Ayhancan Güven placed the Manthey EMA nine-eleven in fifth place on the grid for the final 4-hour race in the Eifel with a lap time of 7:57.423 minutes. Morris Schuring, who contested the race start for his Grello debut, made up one position during his first stint and handed the cockpit over to Güven in fourth place, who in turn moved up another position after the third tyre change. One hour and 20 minutes before the end of the race, he took second place with an overtaking manoeuvre on the track, came into the pit lane in this position for the final tyre change and handed over the wheel to his team-mate for the remaining 50 minutes of the race. Schuring eventually crossed the finish line in second place. The 19-year-old Dutchman thus secured a podium finish on his debut in a Porsche 911 GT3 R on the Nordschleife. For Manthey EMA, second place means the fifth podium of the NLS season and, with second place at the 24H Nürburgring, the sixth podium of the year on the Nordschleife.
‘We are very happy that we were able to celebrate a successful end to the season on the Nordschleife. After always finishing on the podium on the first two NLS weekends and at the 24-hour race, we were able to achieve a nice series of podium finishes on the Nordschleife this year, which I am proud of. Both our drivers did a great job during the NLS 6. For Morris, it's especially nice that after his victory at Le Mans, that his debut in the SP9 class on the Nordschleife with us was also successful. It was also really great to see how many fans came to the Eifel so late in the year in the cold temperatures and cheered us on. We really appreciate that,’ explains Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey Racing GmbH.
Now that the 2024 WEC, DTM and now Nordschleife seasons are over, Manthey's next race will be the first round of the Asian Le Mans Series on 7 December.
Quotes on NLS 6:
Ayhancan Güven, Porsche 911 GT3 R #911: „We finished the last race of the season on the Nordschleife in P2. Luckily the weather was good for the time of year - although it was one of the coldest conditions I have ever driven in. Morris made a good start to the race and I jumped into the car in P4. After my double stint we were P2 and Morris, in his first race with Manthey EMA here, was unable to catch the leader, so we finished in that position. Overall a very positive day again, it was great to drive on the Nordschleife and work with the Manthey EMA crew. I think we did a really good job. Obviously we wanted to win, but a podium is always great.”
Morris Schuring, Porsche 911 GT3 R #911: "It was a great day! My first race in the Grello was really cool and I gained a lot of experience. If I compare the first lap in Qualifying with the last laps of the race, I am really happy with how much I learned. Thanks a lot to Manthey and also Ayhancan for their help. In the end it was P2 and we were close to P1. It was a bit unfortunate with the last Code 60, but to be on the podium in the first race in the Grello is amazing, so I am really happy!”
