Marçal Muller wins again in the Carrera Cup Brasil in a race marked by Miguel Paludo's climb
Marçal Muller took advantage of starting from pole position and bypassed Senna's S in the lead, accompanied by Miguel Paludo in second. Lucas Salles jumped well, from fifth to fourth, behind Chris Hahn. Werner Neugebauer dropped to fifth.
The safety car was activated to rescue four cars that crashed in Laranjinha. For the sub-championships, the leaders were Peter Ferter (Sport), in sixth overall, and Bruno Campos (Rookie), in 13th.
The restart came at the opening of lap 4, with no changes of positions. At that point, some cars began to activate the windshield wiper, as it drizzled on sections of the road.
Marçal cleared the margin over Paludo, who ended up sweating in the taking of the Junction when using the zebra. This favored Hahn's attack, who paired up on the main straight, but stayed out on the contour of Senna's S and collected. Then on the fifth lap once again the #7 went astray. Hahn was opportunistic at Laranjinha and dived inside to be vice-leader.
But Paludo had not given up second place and continued to chase Hahn. The dispute favored Muller in the lead, and the #544 opened lap 7 3.860s ahead of the #26.
The rain tightened, requiring a new intervention by the safety car.
Peter Ferter, who was leading Sport, went astray. Lineu Pires took advantage and took the lead, but also spun in the next corner. Then Edu Guedes had malfunctions in the front of his car.
When the peloton was reestablished, the top 5 was composed of Muller, Hahn, Paludo, Salles and Neugebauer. In seventh, Ferter had regained the lead in Sport, while Bruno Campos, in 11th, was the best in the Rookie class.
The restart came at the opening of lap 10, with the surface already quite slippery. Hahn tried to attack Muller on the outside at Laranjinha and Bico de Pato. The two opened lap 12 separated by 0.065s and then made alternating lines on Senna's S. Hahn took the outside trajectory at the curve of the Sun and left the door open for an attack on the braking of the Lake, but held the front with style.
With other competitors running in the challenging grip conditions, the safety car was deployed again. Hahn led ahead of Marçal and Paludo. Neugebauer and Alceu Feldmann completed the top 5. In seventh Ferter led in Sport, while in Rookie the first was Eduardo Menossi, with 11th place.
And they went to the flag convoyed by the security car.
Summary of Challenge 2 of the Challange at Interlagos
The penultimate sprint stage of the Porsche Cup C6 Bank had all the ingredients that make the difference in the 20 years of life of the category: intense disputes, memorable overtaking and extremely busy races at Interlagos. Marçal Muller won the Carrera Cup after passing Pedro Aguiar on the outside in Senna's S. But who stole the show was the nine-time champion Miguel Paludo, who started from 14th and was second, keeping the lead in the championship.
The Challenge race was also memorable, although it was interrupted before the regulation 25 minutes for safety reasons, when heavy rain fell on the racetrack and the cars were equipped with slick tires produced by Michelin. The race that marked Gerson Campos' first victory in the sprint championship has already entered the history of the event for the dispute with Caio Castro for the lead. The competitors of cars #82 and #22 alternated positions multiple times and in different sections of the Interlagos circuit, in a clean and very disputed battle, as they are the best fights in the category of the most produced competition cars on the planet.
The rain in the late afternoon ended up postponing the Sprint Trophy quali, which will be held on Sunday before the activities that were already scheduled for the last day of the stage.
With the rain the day before, qualifying was postponed to Sunday morning and was carried out with Michelin tires for wet surfaces. Silvio Morestoni took pole, with Gui Affonso starting in second.
At the start the cars were fitted with slick tyres, although there was still some water on the kerbs. After some warm-up laps, the race started in single file. Morestoni held the lead, pressured by Affonso. He was pressured by José Moura Neto at Laranjinha.
In fourth on the grid, Ricardo Zylberman ran off the track and lost positions, so that Neto Heil and Denis Ferrer completed the first lap in the top 5.
On lap 2, Moura Neto attacked Gui Affonso under braking on Senna's S and the two made the first leg paired. Affonso initially neutralized the harassment, but on the Opposite Straight he was overtaken. As Morestoni escaped, the catch between Affonso and Moura Neto was for the lead.
And he opened lap 3 in first place. Affonso was second and Morestoni third. Ferrer and Heil completed the top 5.
At the opening of the next round, Lucas Lucco overtook Leticia Bufoni for seventh place. But the #777 appeared to have a loose fairing piece and ended up blocking wheels when braking at the Lago curve. Leticia approached, but without action to try to retake the position.
Morestoni regained second place passing Affonso at Laranjinha on lap 6. He was faster than the leader and there were still 9 minutes left on the countdown clock.
The safety car was deployed on lap 8, in an incident at the Lago corner. Gustavo Costa was crossed on the tangency line and ended up being collected by William Araujo's car, determining the end of the race for both.
The race restarted for the one-lap sprint. Morestoni tried to go outside on Moura Neto. Fernando Arruda advanced well from fourth to second and Gui Affonso spun in Senna's S, getting crossed. The competitors avoided the #4 car, with Neto Heil showing too much reflex not to hit Affonso's car.
Arruda tried until the end to pass Moura Neto. But he abused it and ended up running at the Junction. Morestoni thanked him, regaining second place. But on the consecration lap, a penalty was announced to the #8 car for burning the restart.
Thus, at the flag, the victory went to Moura Neto, his first in the event of the most produced competition cars in the world. Ferrer inherited second place. Gabriel Líber, Neto Heil and Heverton Cardoso completed the podium, with Heil also winning in the Sport class.
With the results, Moura Neto extended his lead in the overall lead, while Heil is the leader in the entry class.
For the last start of the day, the cars were equipped with Michelin tires for the wet and the race direction determined the start in single single file. Pole Miguel Mariotti soon opened ground, while Alceu Feldmann Neto jumped from fourth on the grid to second place in less than half a lap. Winner the day before, Gerson Campos also stood out at the beginning, advancing from sixth to fourth.
At the end of the first lap, the top five were Mariotti, Feldmann Neto, Cristian Mohr, Gerson and Sebá Malucelli. Feldmann accumulated the leads in the Sport and Rookie classes.
Mohr tried to attack Feldmann for second place, and Caio Chaves attacked Malucelli for fifth place at the opening of lap 3, both maneuvers neutralized.
On the next pass, Mohr attacked on the outside and passed Feldmann under braking on Senna's S, advancing to second place. In the sequence, Gerson also overtook the #1, in Laranjinha.
Feldmann then spun at the Junction, so that Caio Chaves took the lead in Rookie with sixth place overall and Malucelli the lead in Sport with fourth place.
Mohr tried to reduce Mariotti's gap in the lead to 0.868s at the halfway point of the race. Gerson was calm in third, while Malucelli and Leonardo Herrmann fought next for the last two places on the podium and the victory in Sport. In sixth, Caio Chaves was still in the lead of the Rookie.
On the tenth lap Herrmann passed Malucelli on the outside on the descent of the Lake and took fourth place. Caio Chaves and Celio Brasil soon also approached #100.
Mariotti soon gave back to Mohr's attacks and again extended the margin in the lead of the race. Right behind, Herrmann passed Gerson, and Celio Brasil lost ground when he was crossed in a drift in a curve.
Chaves then passed Malucelli, to win a place on the overall podium and second place in Sport, in addition to the victory in Rookie, _e thus crown his title in advance in his debut season.
The safety car was then deployed, due to debris on the track.

Race 1 of the Carrera at Interlagos
Pole-sitter Pedro Aguiar was harassed on the inside by Christian Hahn, who started from third, and on the outside by Marçal Muller, who started next to him on the front row. He was sandwiched and, when Senna's S was taken, Lineu Pires and Werner Neugebauer had contact.
The incident at the front of the pack ended up causing other mishaps, with Marcos Regadas, Rouman Ziemkiewicz, Gustavo Zanon, Rodrigo Mello, Nelson Monteiro and Bruno Campos falling by the wayside on the first lap.
Aguiar applied an X on Hahn and retook the lead. Muller was in second place. Peter Ferter and Franco Giaffone completed the top 5 on the first lap, completed under a safety car regime. Those who escaped unscathed and advanced well were Ferter, from 11th to fourth, and Miguel Paludo, jumping from 14th on the grid to seventh at the end of the opening lap. The restart came at the opening of lap 6. Aguiar accelerated steadily on the climb of the Café, but Muller read the maneuver and paired on the outside. He backed the external trajectory in Senna's S and took the lead in style.
Ferter read the maneuver well and advanced, passing Hahn and Aguiar on the Opposite Straight. Then another clash at Laranjinha took other cars out of the race. Pedro Aguiar and Hahn had contact. Franco Giaffone tried to swerve and ended up being picked up by the crashed car, overturning. The safety car was deployed again, with the race led by Muller. In second, Ferter was the best placed among the competitors in the Sport class. Paludo in clear evolution was third, with Alceu Feldmann and Georgios Frangulis completing the top 5. In ninth, Gustavo Farah led in the Rookie.
The restart came at the opening of lap 10, with less than 4 minutes left on the regression. Muller jumped well and left Ferter to defend the second place against Paludo. Feldmann and Frangulis were in the same ballad as the pointers. But the five podium places were still open, with Nelson Marcondes very fast. He passed Josimar Junior to be sixth and set off after Frangulis. As for Rookie, the battle was for the lead between Gustavo Farah and Edu Guedes.
On lap 11, Paludo even paired with Ferter, but the #56 closed the door. The dispute favored the arrival of Feldmann. There would be one more attempt, on the next lap.
And the driver of car #7 tried to take advantage of it. Paludo climbed the Café embedded in the back of Ferter and braked last on the inside line of Senna's S. He thus rose to second place, crowning a formidable climb.
Muller won for the second time in the year. Paludo kept the lead in the championship with second place. In third overall, Ferter sealed the victory in Sport. Feldmann took the flag in fourth.
