Molitor Racing Systems come away with strong performance at Oschersleben

This weekend had double duties for the team from Lonsee, who started their eleventh year in the ADAC GT Masters with a Porsche 991.2 GT3R alongside their Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland commitments. After many interesting and experimental years with McLaren, Nissan and BMW, the MRS took a wealth of knowledge into the ADAC GT Masters round at Oschersleben. The 31-year-old German, Max Hackländer and Austrian Mick Wishofer joined up for their first race weekend with team MRS, although whilst the partnership was new, both drivers brought previous experience from driving in the ADAC GT Masters.

Pre season testing had shown the recently acquired Porsche 911 GT3 R for Molitor Racing Systems had the pace and the drivers both quickly learning the feel for the car. Unfortunately there wasn't much opportunity for the pace to be shown in the early stages of the first race at Oschersleben on Saturday. Early in the race, Max Hackländer had to take avoiding action from a collision and find himself down the standings. The circuit in Börde, is known for it's difficult overtaking and the team struggled to climb back up the order after their misfortunes in the early stages.

Heading into Sunday and the second race of the weekend, all eyes were on the skies. The every changing weather conditions would play vital in the hour long ADAC GT Masters sprint race. As the grid took to the circuit, rain began to fall and teams were forced to change to wet weather tyres. It was a treacherous opening stint for Wishofer, who had to deal with almost zero visibility ahead. The Austrian managed to keep the car clean and place the team in a strong position as the conditions cleared. As the postponed pit window opened, Wishofer and the strategy team at MRS made the decision to change onto slick tyres for Max Hackländer's stint. A full pit stop with tyre changes is something you very rarely see in the ADAC GT Masters and many teams opted to stay on the wet weather tyres. In a genius move by the team and superb drive by Hackländer, they climbed from P18 to P3 and a podium finish as many of the other teams struggled on a drying track.

Mick Wishofer: "It was a really good race for us and we’re delighted to take home p3. For those who haven't seen the broadcast, the start was very chaotic. The conditions were very very wet and there was no visibility in the mid pack at all. There was a slightly dry line appearing and we made the call to swap to slicks for Max's stint. Some of the field stayed on wets but for us the strategy played out perfectly and we made the right call. Typically you don't change tyres in the ADAC GT Masters but the team at molitor Racing Systems did a superb job to change the tyres and Max drove the car for a podium (P3)."

The Molitor Racing Systems team also had more duties as they competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, a series the Lonsee team have competed in since 2003. The one make Porsche series continues to expand and grow and this was evidenced with the huge talent on display in the Deutschland series. MRS driver Jukka Honkavuori, now in his second season for MRS in the Carrera Cup looked strong this weekend. The Finnish Driver was battling in the very completive mid pack for both rounds and came away with a respectable 10th and 11th position.

Jukka Honkavuori: "Really happy with the top 10 result here in the porsche carrera cup deutschland. I had a really good start from P14 and could get inside top 10 before the end of the first lap. Struggled a bit with the grip after the safety car period but could keep the solid 10th position until the end. Good & important points! Thanks to the whole molitor racing systems team for giving a great car for the weekend at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben."

Alongside Honkavuori this season is teammate and gentleman driver, Ahmad Alshehab. The driver from Kuwait is learning his trade in what is arguably one of the toughest one make series. Alshehab's performances continue to improve as he learns new circuits and confidence in the car.
