Neugebauer wins in Goiânia in the Porsche Cup C6 Bank and Muller leads the Carrera Cup championship
With very challenging grip conditions in the Carrera Cup and in front of a completely packed grandstand, Werner Neugebauer won in Goiânia with Marçal Muller in second this Sunday. After the opening stage of the season, the two appear in the first two positions of the championship, with the driver of #544 ahead. Miguel Paludo, Lucas Salles and Pedro Aguiar complete the top5 after the Porsche Cup C6 Bank race at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna.
In the Challenge class, victory on Sunday went to Antonella Bassani, favored by Caio Castro's abandonment in the final part of the race, while he was leading. Winner the day before, Miguel Mariotti finished the race in second and appears at the top of the Challenge points table, similar to what happens in the Carrera championship after the first stage of the year.
Sunday also featured the first Trophy race in 2024. The entry category race was extremely competitive from the start and was held on a wet track. Andre Rosario prevailed with class.
In the sub-championships, the Carrera Cup had repeats of Saturday's winners. Francisco Horta held off Lineu Pires' momentum and won in Sport, while Israel Salmen had a calmer trajectory, with cars from other categories between his and Leo Sanchez's, to repeat his triumph in Rookie. Consequently, Horta and Salmen lead their divisions, with 100% success.
Challenge Rookie also has an undefeated leader: young Caio Chaves, a 16-year-old driver who won both races. In Challenge Sport there is a tie for first place, between Seba Malucelli and Celio Brasil.
Marçal Muller converts pole into victory at the opening of the Porsche Cup C6 Bank in Goiânia
Marçal Muller was the name on the first day of racing for the most produced racing cars on the planet in the 2024 season. In the morning, the driver from Rio Grande do Sul was the fastest in Q1 and secured pole in Q2. Then he started from the position of honor, led from start to finish to win for the 15th time in his career and, with the best lap of the race, open the Carrera Cup championship with a Grand Chelem.
n the Challenge class, the victory went to Miguel Mariotti, also from start to finish. He won for the first time in his career, after sustaining fierce attacks from Caio Castro on his return to the category.
The day still held the first time trial of the introductory Trophy class, which saw Silvio Morestoni securing his first pole of the year.
The protagonists of the sub-championships also showed strength, a sign that we will have great disputes in all segments of the Carrera and Challenge pelotons.
Chico Horta won in Carrera Sport with a respectable ninth place overall, while Israel Salmen debuted in Carrera Rookie, overtaking Edu Guedes in the final laps to win.
In Challenge Sport, the victory went to Sebá Malucelli, favored by a good second position on the grid. He was still on the overall podium, favored by the loss of performance from Antonella Bassani and Gerson Campos in the final laps.
The winner of Challenge Rookie was newcomer Caio Chaves, 16 years old, also within the top10 overall. He came tenth in Goiânia.
Quotes
“The change in setup had a big influence on today, the car had a lot of potential since training and we managed to save a lot of tire. I wasn't able to do the desired Q2 due to our mistake, and in race 1 we didn't have the best car balance and this setup changed the car's balance a lot. I knew I had to attack right at the start to open up the advantage, it worked, I managed to overtake cleanly and win the race. The condition of the track was improving, throughout the race it started to drip, but the advantage was already comfortable and I just needed to control the pace.” Werner Neugebauer
“Very happy with the result here in Goiânia. We started the year already among the first. Yesterday the car was great, we took pole and won and today I managed to climb the field to come in second place, which makes me finish the stage in the lead of the championship. Happy with the performance and to be able to start the year at the top of the points table together with Farben.” Marcal Muller
“It was certainly more difficult than my victory here last year. Riding with tires on canvas is very complicated here. I dedicate this victory to all women for our day this week. I also congratulate my entire team for their work, starting off on the right foot is very good and now we are looking to defend the title.” Antonella Bassani
“It was a really good weekend, everything went well! We got pole and victory yesterday and today we managed to climb very well to finish in second place. I thank everyone for their work and happy to leave here at the top of the championship.” Miguel Mariotti
“This year luck is different from last year. Last season she was missing from us, especially in Endurance, so I made a car thinking about luck and she was with me at that stage. Good training, and two wins to open the season, there's no better way to start the year thinking about the championship. I don’t think I’m going to leave Goiânia today, I’m going to stay here!” Chico Horta
“It's difficult to process this victory, but I know how to value what brought me here. I thank my team, my fiancée and all women for women's day. Everyone saw how difficult it is to position yourself in the category above, but it is challenging and rewarding.” Célio Brasil
“I've been training a lot on the simulator, I spend every day doing laps to maintain my performance. Today's challenge was to stay focused and keep my head straight. I won yesterday and I knew it couldn't affect my performance today. There’s no way I could have made a better debut, two races and two wins in my first race here in the Porsche Cup.” Caio Chaves
“First of all, I would like to thank everyone who helped me throughout this weekend here in Goiânia.
I was already used to the car, so I knew I could push it a little more and I managed to come first at the end of the first lap. I tried to set a strong pace, but I had to be a little careful after the safety car to avoid being attacked. It was a really good race! I really liked the rainy conditions, the car has very good grip. The first few laps I had to learn my reactions a little, but then I managed to set a good pace.” André Rosario
“My first race of my first season and the first time riding in Goiânia, with it still raining. But, it was a shower of blessings, with two trophies, first in Sport and fifth overall.” Neto Heil
“I want to start by saying thank you, I had support from everyone who was here with me. I hadn't driven a car in the rain yet, so I was a little more nervous than I expected, but I just kept going. I managed to be constant, I overtook twice, but I was waiting for others to make mistakes, the track was slippery and I knew that mistakes could happen, I took my foot off a little due to the rain and everything went well. I spent many hours in the simulator to get here prepared, but even so I had a lot of difficulty on the race track, now I'm going to train even more for the Velocitta in the simulator.” Lucas Lucco
“These are racing things that I'm still not used to, I was in second place in my category, I stayed there for more than half the race and already pointing in the last straight I ended up suffering a touch and spinning. I was upset, I didn't think it was fair, but these are racing things and I have to get used to it. Still, happy with the result and with being on the podium today in Goiânia. It was a great debut, I started in fourth and managed to move up to third at the beginning, in the middle of the race I managed to move up to second and tried to catch up to first, but he was too fast. The track was very slippery, so it took a lot of calm to avoid making a mistake. Unfortunately this incident in the last corner cost me second place, but let's go to the next race and I can be even better.” Leticia Bufoni
The Porsche Cup C6 Bank returns on the first weekend of April, for another five races valid for the three categories at the Velocitta track, in Mogi Guaçu (SP).
