Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux ready to start its eleventh season
The 2023 motorsport season is also approaching in the Benelux and fans of competitive one-make cup series can indulge themselves this year. For the eleventh season of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, no fewer than 29 cars will be on the starting grid for the entire season. A record breaking 32 drivers will start the first races of the season on the world famous asphalt in the Ardennes. Moreover, the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux fully lives up to its name as a breeding ground for the champions of tomorrow, with no less than seven very talented young drivers in the Talent Pool program. Twelve teams form the permanent core of a championship that is more than ever at the top of the motorsport pyramid in the Benelux.
Harry King is the reigning champion and the battle for the succession to the throne of the rapid Briton will be particularly intense, not only in the Pro class, but also in Pro-Am and Am. The Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux 2023 menu features six weekends with two races of 30 minutes and one lap each. The rounds will take place on challenging local and international circuits: Spa (FIA WEC), Hockenheim (Festival of Dreams), Zandvoort (DTM), Assen (Jack's Racing Day), Zolder (FIA Truck GP ) and the Red Bull Ring (DTM)
Naturally, Catherine Van Geel, PR Manager at D'Ieteren Porsche Import, is looking forward to what is to come:
“The start will be made during perhaps the most important motorsport weekend in Belgium this year: the arrival of the FIA WEC to Spa-Francorchamps, with the Porsche 963 and our compatriot Laurens Vanthoor in the World Endurance Championship. The weapon for the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux is and will of course remain the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 -. The entire weekend is an example of how motorsport and competition are deeply rooted in Porsche's DNA. Our production vehicles also bring that DNA to life for our customers in a wonderful way. In addition, it is very positive to note that the organization of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux in 2023 will provide a starting field of no less than twelve teams and thirty drivers, moreover in a very balanced field, with fourteen Pro drivers at the front, but also eight participants in Pro-Am and seven in Am.”
Full starting grid and lots of young talent
Olivier Aerts, the Series Manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux is also a satisfied man: “The championship grows year after year and that is the result of a professional approach, a strong collaboration with our partners and of course the enormous work of the teams that confirm their confidence in our class year after year and I would like to personally thank them for that. With 29 full-season participants and three guest drivers in Spa, the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux confirms its status as a very strong competition in the Low Countries.”
One of the pillars of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux is the Talent Pool program, reserved for talented young drivers. They receive intensive coaching in various areas within the competition with a view to a professional career in motorsport and possibly a place within the Junior Program of Porsche Motorsport.
“It is wonderful to see that no less than seven young drivers are presenting themselves this year and they are going to fight a very nice battle within the battle,” said Olivier Aerts. “Seeing young talent grow up in sports is always a must. We wish Flynt Schuring (NLD), Sacha Norden (NLD), Robert de Haan (NLD), Dirk Schouten (NLD), Quentin Antonel (FR), Etienne Ploenes (GER) and Horst Felix Felbermayr (AUS) every success!”
You will find the twelve teams in the appendix and they are preparing to take the ultimate step towards the start of the 2023 season on Friday 7 April in Spa-Francorchamps, during the official test day of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. We will then be separated for another three weeks before the fastest one-make cup in the Benelux knows its first winners
