Reimei Ito has done it all: Undefeated Champion of PCCJ 2024

Round eight and nine of PCCJ 2024 took place at Fuji International Speedway together with Super GT Championship, one of the most popular GT racing series in world. The race track of Fuji has been known as a venue of WEC Japan round since 80’s. In 2024 season of WEC, there will be round seven on 14,15 September as Six Hours of Fuji.

Until previous round, #60 Reimei Ito had won all races from pole to win and possibly he could his PCCJ title after round eight. However, two drivers who could be able to stop Ito’s winning streak came to Fuji. #7 Yuta Kamimura, who was former Porsche Japan Junior and now competing in GT World Challenge Asia with 911 GT3 R from porsche Center Okazaki. The other is #45 Marino Sato. Sato raced in FIA Formula 2 from 2020 to 2022 and now racing in LMP2 in ELMS and LMGT3 in WEC. For both, it was first time to drive 992 GT3 Cup so they had hard time to adjust their driving in qualifying session on Saturday. Ito, again, would start pole position for round eight and nine.

In round eight, #90 Ryosuke Kure, who started from 2nd grid, attacked Ito and they jumped into 1st corner with side-by-side. But Ito did not let Kure overtake. This was only chance the other threatened Ito. Ito, again, won the race with pole to finish and as a result of this, he became 2024 PCCJ Champion.

10:00 a.m. on Sunday, round nine of PCCJ、which was titled as Michelin Challenge, got started. The race begun with as the order of qualifying, Ito at first, Kamimura and Sato, #91 Ryoma Henzan, Porsche Japan Junior, followed new PCCJ Champion. Including Kure on 5th grid, all five cars in Pro-class run through 1st lap with tale to nose. But one car in Am-class spun out and crashed, Because of the accident, red flag was shown. After 20 minutes of race stoppage, the race restarted with a safety car. At restart, there was only three minutes left of 30 minutes race duration. So two laps after restart, round nine got checkered flag. The position of Pro-class did not changed and Ito was still undefeated after nine races.

At ProAm-class, title is still open but #88 Tiger Wu from Chinese Taipei, finished 3rd place and won Am-class title for two years in a low.

Final event of PCCJ 2024 season will be at Suportland Sugo in Miyagi prefecture on 09 and 10 November. PCCJ will be back to Tohoku, north part of Japan, area first time since 202.

Now focus is on whether Itou can win all the races of PCCJ 2024 with pole-to-win.
