Two different highlights in the Benelux
The motorsport month of August is behind us, and the Porsche competitions in the Benelux experienced two very different highlights: the fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux during Jack’s Racing Day in Assen and the 24 Hours of Zolder, the fourth round of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux. Both events, at the beginning and the end of the month, were a popular and sporting success!
Assen, in the north of the Netherlands, was the venue for the fourth of six rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. In addition to the regular participants, including the title contenders, there were also some very fast guest drivers, such as Larry Ten Voorde (JW Raceservice) and Wouter Boerekamps (PG Motorsport). Both victories, including a spectacular comeback race on Sunday, went to the multiple champion in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Larry Ten Voorde, while Dirk Schouten (Q1 Trackracing) heads to the penultimate meeting at the Red Bull Ring in Austria as the leader. This round will take place in mid-September.
“It was a very successful way to kick off the summer break,” said Series Manager Olivier Aerts. “The event in Assen has been on our calendar for years; it’s a true celebration of motorized sports, with races for motorcycles, superkarts, and of course, race cars, and the public really turns up in large numbers for this summer event. We saw two great races again, with a large crowd in the stands. What more could you ask for?”
On September 13, 14, and 15, the fastest one-make series in the Benelux heads to the Austrian Redbull Ring, and on October 11, 12, and 13, the titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux will be decided at the Belgian circuit of Zolder.
“Everything is still open, whether in the overall standings, among the rookies, in the PRO-AM category, or in the team rankings,” Olivier Aerts continued. “We are gearing up for a thrilling finale of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux!”
The Twentieth Win for Porsche in the 24 Hours of Zolder
On August 24 and 25, it was time for the 46th edition of the 24 Hours of Zolder, the most important race of the Belgian national endurance championship and, of course, the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux, which is an integral part of the national championship. Nearly 35,000 spectators watched Porsche drive to victory.
The various Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars – Type 992 – competed not only among themselves but also for the overall victory. For the second time in a row, NGT Racing, under the banner of D’Ieteren Luxury Performance, claimed victory with the quintet Bertrand Baguette, Benjamin Paque, Kobe Pauwels, Robin Knutsson, and Glenn Van Parijs, ahead of an identical car from Belgium Racing with Lars Kern, Dylan Derdaele, Jan Lauryssen, and Sacha Norden. It was the twentieth win for Porsche in this grueling endurance race, more than any other brand.
Belgium Racing solidified its lead in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux and, of course, in the Belgian endurance championship Belcar with this second-place finish.
