Successful Nordschleife test for the new Porsche one-make series
The participants of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) had the chance to collect their first Nordschleife kilometers in the 2022 season during this weekend's test and set-up days. 16 teams with 23 cars took advantage of the Nürburgring testing opportunities in a professional environment one week before the first round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Over the course of the weekend 13 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) and ten Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport were on track..
This year, the test and set-up days took place over three days from March 18 to 20. The drivers were able to prepare for the upcoming racing season on the short Grand Prix circuit loop on Friday and on the 24.458-kilometer VLN variant on Saturday and Sunday.
"Many teams took the opportunity this weekend to prepare for the upcoming season and we had successful days without any incidents. We are overwhelmed by the response of the teams to the PETN and are looking forward to around 30 starters from 19 different teams competing in the classifications of the one-make series. We have a promising 2022 season ahead of us," summarizes Julia Klee, who is responsible for the organization of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring.
The championship will be held as part of all eight rounds of the 2022 NLS season and continues the six-year success story of the Cayman GT4 Trophy by Manthey-Racing - which will now become the "Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring Cup 3" class. It will be supplemented by the "Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring Cup 2" class, in which only the latest-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is eligible to compete.
"It's great that the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring is bringing the Cup 2 class back to its former strength. There have been fantastic duels here in the past, which we can now look forward to again. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) is an impressive car that will bring a lot of joy to both the drivers behind the wheel and the fans at the racetrack," says Michel Pathe, CEO of VLN VV GmbH & Co. KG, about the importance of the PETN for the NLS.
All participants can take part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring as well as in the qualifying race with the same vehicle configuration, as in previous years. Both events count as single events and are not included in the annual standings of the one-make series.
The race debut of the new Porsche one-make series will take place on March 26 as part of the 67th ADAC Westfalenfahrt and will run over a distance of four hours.
