Harry King also wins the second race at the season opener in Italy

Double victory for Harry King at the season opener of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland: Following Saturday’s race, the Briton from the Allied-Racing team also won the second race on Sunday at the Formula 1 circuit in Imola. Defending champion Larry ten Voorde rounded off his first outing for Proton Huber Competition with second place. A double premiere in third place: Frenchman Marvin Klein and his Italian team Target Competition are newcomers to the German one-make cup with the ca. 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Taking up the race from the second grid spot, Harry King made a decisive overtaking manoeuvre after just a few metres. In the first chicane, he overtook Theo Oeverhaus (Bonk Motorsport), the fastest driver in qualifying. He then kept Larry ten Voorde at bay with seemingly little effort.

“The race on Saturday was already good. But together with my race engineer, I was able to make my car even faster for today. Two victories without starting from pole position – what a perfect weekend,” said King, praising his team’s efforts.

The duel in the first chicane was less fortunate for Theo Oeverhaus. It was the 19-year-old from Osnabrück’s first pole position in the Carrera Cup Deutschland. A tie rod on his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was bent out of shape after a slight contact in the battle for position with King – Oeverhaus was forced to retire.

Larry ten Voorde started the hunt for his fourth title in the German Carrera Cup with two second places. “In contrast to yesterday, I had a great start – the detailed work with the team paid off. After that, I stayed out of any shuffles for positions and concentrated fully on my race,” summarised the record-holding champion.

Third place went to Robert de Haan (Team75 Bernhard). However, the 17-year-old Dutchman was subsequently handed a time penalty, which relegated him to 14th place. As a result, French rookie Marvin Klein inherited third. Fourth to sixth place went to Ariel Levi (Team GP Elite) from Israel, Austrian Horst Felix Felbermayr (Proton Huber Competition) and Dutchman Huub van Eijndhoven (Team GP Elite).

Flynt Schuring rounded off Proton Huber Competition’s strong team performance with a victory in the Rookies category. Like on Saturday, Sören Spreng (GP Elite) secured first place in the ProAm classification. “I was in a duel with my ProAm colleague Michael Essmann. Fortunately, I managed to defend my position,” reported the German race driver.

"Together with our new partner SIXT, we’ve had a successful start to the new season. We’ve seen two exhilarating races and I fully support the decisions of the stewards. I’m particularly pleased by Theo Oeverhaus’ pole position and the podium finish from Robert de Haan, two drivers from our Talent Pool. I think we’ll see a host of good results this season from the eight young Talent Pool drivers,” commented Hurui Issak, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Round 2 already next weekend in Oschersleben
The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland teams will travel from Emilia-Romagna directly to the Magdeburger Börde. The third and fourth races of the season are scheduled for the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben next weekend (26-28 April 2024) as part of the DTM season opener.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup last made a guest appearance on the 3.696-kilometre race track in 2021, when Larry ten Voorde finished on the podium twice. Victories in both races were secured by the Porsche Juniors Laurin Heinrich and Ayhancan Güven. Former Carrera Cup driver Güven, who has since gone pro, also hits the Oschersleben track this weekend – at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the DTM team Manthey.
