Jaxon Evans (BWT Lechner Racing) winner and champion 2020!
With titles that were not played before the final of the Porsche Carrera Cup France in Barcelona, spirits were bound to be overheated. Only Victor Veyrich (Pierre Martinet by Alméras) was assured of the Rookie crown before the start of the final. The first round was eventful to say the least.
From turn 1, Richard Wagner (BWT Lechner Racing) touched Florian Latorre (CLRT) who himself led Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer (BWT Lechner). The latter found himself at a stop in the middle of the track before being hit by Jérôme Boullery (Racing Technology), Christophe Lapierre (Sébastien Loeb Racing) and Maxence Maurice (IMSA Performance). Penalized by three places on the grid for race 2, Florian Latorre was unable to take advantage of his pole position for race 2.
It was finally Ayhacan Güven (Martinet by Almeras) who started from pole with Jaxon Evans (BWT Lechner Racing) at his side, winner the day before. The safety car quickly entered the track to free the cars and clean the track. Jaxon Evans was in charge of restarting the peloton in front of the Turkish driver for 11 minutes of racing.
The hierarchy will not change among the leading men even if Richard Wagner and Victor Blugeon (Martinet by Almeras) clung two minutes from time.
The last round of the year therefore goes to Jaxon Evans ahead of Ayhancan Güven and Marvin Klein (Martinet by Alméras). Adam Eteki and Hugo Chevalier (CLRT) complete the top 5. Victory for Nicolas Misslin (BWT Lechner Racing) in Pro-Am and Emil Caumes (CLRT) in Am.
Jaxon Evans' double in Catalonia offers the New Zealand driver the 2020 title. Nicolas Misslin is titled in Pro-Am. The title in Am is for François Lansard (CLRT).
“I knew I had to keep my act together, make no mistake and bring the title home. I am so glad it worked out”, the Porsche Junior from New Zealand said after the race.
“After I had a really bad start into the weekend with all my gear stolen from my rental car, it now couldn´t have ended any better than winning the championship.”
Team principle Walter Lechner was of course ever so happy with the outcome: “It was a fantastic weekend for our team and it is a great feeling to win all the championships we competed for.
Especially as we are newcomers in the French Porsche Carrera Cup, fighting against more experienced competition.”
