Laurin Heinrich wins double victory on the virtual Autodromo
The winner of the "Race at Home" of the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Germany is Laurin Heinrich (D / Porsche Center Bamberg). At the special digital event of the national one-make cup, the German won the two 30-minute races. A total of 21 drivers formed the starting field on the virtual Autodrom Most (Czech Republic) in their 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. This also included Porsche brand ambassador Timo Bernhard (D / Team75 Bernhard / Porsche Center Mannheim). The two-time overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was able to fight for a place in midfield in the first run. The brand cup held the virtual event on the simulation platform RaceRoom.
“It was an outstanding start to our second season in Esports. Both races were characterized by thrilling duels and the best proof that virtual motorsport is really entertaining. Experienced Sim racers as well as young drivers and amateur drivers from real motorsport have ensured a large number of overtaking maneuvers, ”said Hurui Issak, project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.
All Sim-Racers started in vehicles with special paintwork from various Porsche centers from all over Germany. Heinrich achieved a start-finish victory in both races. In the first run, the pole-setter gained a small lead immediately after the start. He continued to expand it and was the first to see the checkered flag after 19 laps. “It was a perfect virtual race day for me. My start was great and the distance I gained made it possible to protect my tires. I had a good grip on the tour at all times, ”said Heinrich.
Follower Rudy van Buren (NL / CarTech Motorsport / Porsche Zentrum Olympiapark) found no overtaking opportunity in the first laps and lost touch with Heinrich in the course of the race. The Formula E simulator driver finished second. “To be honest, I haven't had much experience on RaceRoom so far. Therefore, second place is better than I expected. I lacked the speed to fight for the lead with Laurin Heinrich. So I'm happy with the result, ”said van Buren. His compatriot Larry ten Voorde (Huber Racing / Porsche Center Augsburg) followed behind Heinrich and took third place. Berkay Besler (TR / Huber Racing / Porsche Center Dortmund) secured fourth place ahead of Dylan Pereira (L / Förch Racing / Porsche Center Frankfurt).
In the second race Heinrich laid the foundation stone for victory again at the start. From pole position, the 18-year-old left the field in the first lap and confidently drove to the second victory. Heinrich also benefited from position battles behind him: starting from third place, ten Voorde won the duel against van Buren and took second place. But in the second round van Buren again passed ten Voorde and did not give up the second position to the finish line. Pereira secured third place on the podium after ten Voorde fell behind in the sixth lap due to a spin. Fourth and fifth were Julian Hanses (A / Förch Racing / Porsche Zentrum Berlin) and ten Voorde.
Timo Bernhard was one of the drivers on Saturday. The two-time world champion in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and five-time overall winner in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring celebrated his Esports debut. In his first race, he finished 15th in midfield. “Of course it was clear to me that the quality at the top is extremely high. The races were fun and I was able to gain interesting experiences, ”summarized Bernhard. The two influencers Mathieu Wacker (“DiePixelHelden”) and David Karapetian (“Dave Gaming”) were also guest starters. Both took tenth place once.
