Podium finish for Porsche in turbulent ADAC GT Masters season opener

The first part of the opening race was eventful at the Lausitzring. Porsche driver Alfred Renauer (35 / Jedenhofen, Precote Herberth Motorsport), who started from fourth place, took the lead from pole-setter Luca Stolz thanks to a strong start. Renauer then defended his top position against pride until round eight. But when proudly started an overtaking attempt in turn six, the Porsche and the Mercedes-AMG touched. Pride took the lead, but Renauer turned and fell far behind. In the following laps, Stolz extended his lead to almost four seconds. A subsequent safety car deployment after a collision, in which the second-placed Robert Renauer (35 / Vierkirchen, Precote Herberth Motorsport) in a Porsche, through no fault of his pursuer Markus Pommer (29 / Neckarsulm, Callaway Competition) was hit in the Corvette, pushed the field together again. At the restart, Klaus Bachler (29 / A, Küs Team75 Bernhard) went past Stolz from second place and defended it until the driver change to Simona De Silvestro.

De Silvestro and Bachler, on the other hand, lost their chance of a podium finish when their Porsche collided with the Audi from Kim-Luis Schramm (23 / Meuspath) and Christopher Mies (31 / Heiligenhaus, both Montaplast by Land Motorsport). Third place went to the second R8 LMS from Montaplast by Land Motorsport, which was piloted by Max Hofer (21 / A) and Christopher Haase (32 / Kulmbach).

Serial newcomer Jannes Fittje immediately secured victory in the Pirelli Junior classification for young drivers at the Lausitzring on Saturday.

The 21-year-old showed a strong chase in the Porsche 911 GT3 R together with teammate David Jahn. Fittje fought his way up from eleventh place to eleventh, after which Jahn even finished the Porsche in fourth place overall. "It was a mega race," said Fittje happily. "I never expected such a result. In qualifying I was only four tenths away from the top, but I was still only 20. The distances were extremely narrow. The start was turbulent. I tried to keep out of everything and after that I was a decent one Stint. When I handed over to David, I was eleventh. He drove really well to the finish after that. Fourth place and the victory in the Pirelli Junior classification - unbelievable. "
