Podium result for Huber Racing at Supercup home race at Red Bull Ring

First podium result for Huber Racing in the 2023 season of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring - MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo collected his first points in the race series. The team was also represented at the 24h Spa.

The Porsche Mobil1 Supercup's guest appearance at the Red Bull Ring is also Huber Racing's home race in the international one-make cup, as team owner Christoph Huber is from Austria. The team entered the race in Styria with an expanded line-up, as Porsche Carrera Cup Germany driver Luca Rettenbacher made a guest start for the team at international level. In addition, Austrian Horst Felix Felbermayr replaced Pablo Otero in the team's fourth regular car. Leon Köhler, Simone Iaquinta and five-time motorbike world champion Jorge Lorenzo drove the other Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars of the team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria.

In difficult weather conditions during qualifying, the Huber drivers fought their way into a strong starting position for the race. Leon Köhler finished the time chase in fourth place, but had to start the race from seventh due to a penalty. Guest starter Luca Rettenbacher was also convincing and qualified in eighth place on the grid.

The race on Sunday morning thrilled the numerous fans on the traditional Styrian circuit as well as in front of the global TV sets. In a real thriller, the Huber Racing drivers delivered exciting duels and spectacular catch-up chases. Last year's DTM driver Leon Köhler advanced to fourth place and was classified third after a time penalty against a competitor. It is the first podium result for Köhler and Huber Racing in the 2023 season of the one-make cup. Guest entrant Rettenbacher was also convincing in the race at his home race and finished sixth in the strongly contested Porsche one-make cup. Italian Simone Iaquinta also scored a solid points result on the high-speed circuit with a twelfth-place finish.

As Rettenbacher is not eligible for points as a guest starter, five-time motorbike world champion Jorge Lorenzo, in 15th place, receives two more points - his first in the racing series! In addition, he is the first motorbike world champion to score points in the Supercup. Local hero Horst Felix Felbermayr - the third generation of racers in the Austrian family - also gained important experience in the Supercup. The youngster, who normally competes for Huber Racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, finished the race in 27th position.

Team boss Christoph Huber was delighted after the successful race in Styria: "Finally, after the difficult last few weeks, we have been able to show our potential in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and celebrate our first podium finish in the 2023 Supercup season. This shows us that we are on the right track with our development. In addition, I am very pleased that Jorge Lorenzo was able to score his first points result in the Supercup."

At the same time, Huber Racing took part in the 24h Spa in cooperation with Dinamic GT. At the world's biggest GT3 race, in which no fewer than 70 cars took part, Dinamic GT Huber Racing fielded three Porsche 911 GT3 R cars. Christian Engelhart, Sven Müller and Ayhancan Güven led the race on Sunday morning before Engelhart was spun around by a Mercedes at a restart and dropped back. The trio ultimately finished the endurance classic on the Ardennes rollercoaster in twelfth place.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R of Jop Rappange, Adrien de Leener, Tanart Sathienthirakul and Daniele Di Amato finished the race on Sunday at 16:30 in fourth position in the Silver Cup. Philipp Sager, Ben Barker, Marius Nakken and Christopher Zöchling had to park their car after 396 laps.
