Porsche Junior Bastian Buus determined to defend Supercup lead

One of the most storied racetracks on the Formula 1 calendar hosts round three of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: The international one-make cup with the 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be contested as part of the British Grand Prix support programme this coming weekend (7 to 9 July 2023) at Silverstone. Porsche Junior Bastian Buus, the Red Bull Ring winner, heads to the race on the former airfield north of London as the championship leader. Another hot favourite is local hero Harry King, the winner of the opening round in Monaco.

Three drivers have dominated the first two rounds of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup so far: Porsche Junior Bastian Buus, Larry ten Voorde and Harry King have climbed the podium in Monaco and again last weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The order across the line at the season opener was King followed by ten Voorde and Buus; in Styria it was Buus, ten Voorde and King. Englishman Harry King, however, had to relinquish his third place at Spielberg: During his spectacular charge from 16th place, he caused two collisions, for which he was retrospectively handed a time penalty from the stewards. Subsequently, the 22-year-old was relegated from the top of the leaderboard to third overall. Porsche Junior Bastian Buus now leads the championship. Like King, the Dane competes for the BWT Lechner Racing team. Only two points separate Buus from the Dutch GP Elite driver Larry ten Voorde.

Four guest drivers boost the Silverstone line-up to 32 competitors – the maximum number for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup grid. The UK-based Parker Racing squad fields two 911 racers, with one of them driven by Adam Smalley. Porsche UK supports the current championship leader of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain. Seventeen-year-old Robert de Haan helms one of the two additional Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars campaigned by Richardson Racing. A fortnight ago, the Dutchman clinched a podium result at a Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland race.

Jorge Lorenzo from Spain will not compete in Silverstone this coming weekend. The former motorbike world champion, who scored his first Supercup points at the Red Bull Ring, is focusing on the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. The Italian one-make cup contests races five and six at Mugello this weekend.

Output of ca. 375 kW (510 PS) and fuel from renewable sources
The 2023 Supercup season marks the third year for the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The output of the six-cylinder boxer engines with around four litres of displacement remains unchanged at 375 kW (510 PS). As was the case in the previous two seasons, the Supercup nine-elevens will be powered by Esso Renewable Racing Fuel, a bio-based, semi-synthetic fuel blend. In addition to the technically identical race cars, the control racing tyres from Michelin also ensure an equal playing field and gripping competition.

Silverstone Circuit
The Silverstone Circuit about 100 kilometres north of London is one of several British racetracks that originally served as an airfield for the Royal Air Force. The “Home of British Motor Racing” hosted the first Formula 1 race in history in 1950. Since 1994, the Porsche Supercup has been a regular feature on today’s 5.891-kilometre course. It is one of the fastest races on the international one-make cup calendar. Victory last year went to Laurin Heinrich, who was a Porsche Junior at that time.
