Yifei Ye to take on Monza in WEC as Porsche Sports Cup China returns to Tianjin

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Yifei Ye is targeting a strong result as the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) travels to Autodromo Nazionale di Monza this weekend for Round 5 of the 2023 season.

Racing for Hertz Team JOTA in the #38 Porsche 963, Ye and his teammates Will Stevens and fellow Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa will be looking to continue the progress made so far this season and to build on a promising performance at last month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the Chinese driver led the race in the early stages.

The fabled Italian circuit, nicknamed the Temple of Speed, is a driver and fans favourite thanks to its high speed and heavy braking zones offering excellent overtaking opportunities. Corners such as the two Lesmos, Ascari chicane and Parabolica are woven into the history of motorsport, with the 5.793-kilometre track certain to challenge teams and drivers throughout the six-hour race.

Meanwhile, Porsche Sports Cup China heads north to V1 Tianjin International Circuit for its second event of the year. The series, which debuted in 2019 and is also set to visit Zhuhai and Shanghai, offers opportunities to Porsche customers and enthusiasts of all levels to realise their dreams and drive a Porsche road or race car on China’s best-renowned circuits. Customers are given the chance to experience the uncompromising all-electric Porsche Taycan as Introduction to Race Track returns, while the popular Porsche Drivers’ competition represents a step up. Participants race against the clock in either a single-lap or three-lap time trial, with two-door Porsche sports cars eligible to tackle the event.

The Porsche Sprint Challenge China is open to the more experienced racer, with both the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport eligible to take on the series, which reaches its halfway stage this weekend. A bronze driver-focused series, the Porsche Sprint Challenge China, is a platform that Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific delivers for customer racing in the region, alongside Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand, both of which have enjoyed strong starts to their respective campaigns.

Yifei Ye, #38 Hertz Team JOTA: “It’s been great to recover and reflect on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with several obvious positives from the event. We had great speed and potential, and learned from some incidents and issues. We’re targeting a strong second half of the season, starting this weekend at Monza. It’s a track I’ve always enjoyed racing on, it’s fast and there’s always a lot of overtaking, so I’m sure I’ll love competing there in the Porsche 963. We’ve got a great driver line-up and team behind us, so we’re coming to fight hard for a strong result.”

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We’re really excited to see our Selected Driver Yifei back in action in the Porsche 963 this weekend. He had great pace at Le Mans and the Hertz Team JOTA squad really showed their potential, so we’re looking forward to the event. Monza is an incredible place to compete, so I hope he enjoys a successful race and brings back a positive result.

“Following our first visit in 2022 together with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, we are very happy to return to Tianjin as the Porsche Sports Cup China reaches the halfway mark of its 2023 campaign. Now in its fifth season, and with programmes for drivers of all experience levels, there really is something for everyone and it’s always special to come together with all our Porsche enthusiasts, at the race track, celebrating  we’re looking forward to having so many Porsche enthusiasts attending the event.”
