PorscheSport Carrera Cup at Imola full of action

Team Redline dominate at Imola, as Alexander Thiebe claims victory in the PorscheSport Carrera Cup on the ever growing iRacing platform.

As the PorscheSport Carrera Cup continues to gain momentum, the racers returned for round 3, at the infamous Imola circuit. With an action-packed opening heat race, drivers battled for position to secure their place in the feature race.

Alexander Thiebe continued his success for Team Redline in the 911 Cup Car, claiming a light to flag victory in the feature race. Thiebe took control of the opening heat, leading from the start and putting in a commanding gap to cross the line an impressive 8.5 seconds in front of Brian Lockwood, who took second place. The battle for that all-important tenth place, which secures entry into the main event, saw an exciting four-car contest right up to the very end, with Sam Kuitert winning the battle.

Heat two was packed with drama from the off, with several cars making contact and others being forced to make drastic maneuvers to avoid the carnage unfolding in front of them. Once the dust had settled, it was Diogo Francisco who found himself in front, with Maxim Ramsteijn in second and Kieran Harrison in third. Francisco led for much of the race up until the last ten minutes when he made a mistake heading into the last corner, resulting in him spinning and costing him the lead. It was Harrison who held his nerve, and after a faultless race took the win, with second going to Francisco and third to Robin Ostland.

The consultation race provided fans with plenty of drama right from the start, with several incidents involving the drivers at the back of the field, but it was Ivan Harasta who made the best of starts leading from the front. Gavin Halls, in the PorscheSport 911, also made a great start slotting into second on the first lap. Halls continued to push forward and was putting in a strong performance for the challenge on first place, until Espen Erlandsen in third tapped him from behind, sending Halls into a spin and losing several positions, promoting Artem Grabow into third.

The 3 way wheel to wheel battle at the front continued to rage until Ivan Harasta, who had led from the start, spun with only 3 minutes left on the clock. This left Artem Grabow and Espen Erlandsen fighting to the end, however it was Grabow who held on to take the win, with Espen in second and Oscar Wilkens taking third.

There must have been something in the air, as the main event was a carbon copy of the heat races with again, a large percentage of the grid finding themselves involved in incidents right from the start. By the end of the first lap, Alexander Thiebe was leading, with Quentiin Vialatte in second and Kieran Harrison in third. Thiebe, for Team Redline racing who dominated the first heat, put in a flawless race to take the win from pole position. The battle for second and third continued throughout the race but it was Brian Lockwood who held on to take second, with Maxim Ramsteijn, who had powered his way through the field taking third.
