PorscheSport Carrera Cup provides thrilling action at Road America

After a hugely successful first round of the PorscheSport Carrera Cup on the iRacing Platform, we returned for round 2, at the world famous Road America. The opening race provided fans with all the action, as the Nurburgring played host to over 60 911 Cup Cars, all competing in both a driver and team championship.

It was Alexander Thiebe who claimed the feature race victory on his first appearance in the Team Redline 911, after an epic battle with Maxim Ramsteijn in the HM Engineering 911.

Every round features a single qualifying session, two heat races, a consultation race and the main feature race, which are all streamed live on Racespot TV. The top ten from each heat automatically progress to the feature race, along with the top ten from the consolation race.

Alexander Thiebe, who missed the opening round, looked competitive throughout qualifying in his Team Redline 911, challenging the championship leader, Maxim Ramsteijn for the pole position. Heat one provided drama from the start with several cars losing control of the tricky 911 and many going wide on the cold tyres. Ultimately, it was Alexander Thiebe for Team Redline racing who dominated the first heat, with a comfortable margin over Dylan Birse and Justin Tipton.

With qualifying split odd and even into the two heats, fans would have to wait for the feature race to see the fastest drivers compete at the front. Heat two had championship leader, Maxim Ramsteijn, on pole for HM Engineering. The sister car of Kieran Harrison sat second on the grid, although an uncharacteristic error from Harrison had him off the circuit into turn one. Ramsteijn, who lead from the start, took the chequered flag for Heat two, with Anders Myhre in second and Robin Östlund in third. Harrison, in the red HM Engineering car did fight his way back through the field, but missed out on the top ten by one position.

The consolation race always provides action throughout the field, as everyone fights for the top ten and a final chance to reach the feature race. The wheel to wheel action continued throughout the race and it was Kieran Harrison who made up for his early errors, claiming victory and a spot in the feature race. Jose Manuel Padin claimed second, followed by Michael Pedersen in third.

The feature race looked set for a fantastic battle between Team Redline and HM Engineering with Alexander Thiebe and Maxim Ramsteijn on the front row. Carnage commenced from the start with several Porsches involved in a crash. At the front, Ramsteijn applied the pressure on Thiebe and eventually managed to take the lead. With more wheel to wheel action and plenty of respect between the two drivers, it was Thiebe who eventually claimed the victory.
